I think planes should be boarded back to front.

Why do you care enough about this to start a thread?

Getting on and off airplanes is one of the most frustrating and maddening experiences I have in my life.
So if that's the case I guess I have it pretty darn good. But it really does infuriate me....the lack of awareness of others - the lack of common courtesy, the holding up of everyone on the plane when it's just not necessary. I'm getting mad just thinking about it.

Waitress telling you THREE times over the intercom that using your own alcohol to make a drink will get you banned for life. American Airlines didn't say shite. Had a few Tito's from Total Wine & More, and cranberry juice from the vending machine
Severely limiting carry-ons would make flying smoother and safer in an emergency. Half the TSA might be out of a job, but at least we wouldn’t have 21st-century Joads hauling everything but the kitchen sink onto the plane.

Why do you care? You stated overhead space is always available.

30 minutes from ‘boarding’. Most likely longer and there’s already 3 dipshits forming a line. Seats are pre assigned.
Because they've likely encountered assholes who want to clog up the line by trying to shove a too-large bag in the overheard bin and/or some asshat who wants to put their bag far closer to the entrance than their seat (thus taking up spaces for the people who actually sit below those spots).

There is nothing about an airport that does not piss me off no end. Air travel in general but the airport is the worst part of the ordeal. The only redeeming thing about an airport is an airport bar....rife with the sense of opportunity without a snowballs chance of it coming to fruition. Outside of overpriced beer and bloody mary's if its a morning flight I would rather visit a proctologist from eastern europe who has an allergy to lube than get within 10 miles of an airport....

Maybe they’re trying to get on stand by?

Sitting is uncomfortable and painful for obese people with hip problems

Maybe people like to stand up when they know they’re about to be sitting in a cramped space for hours. Not that difficult to imagine and why does it even bother you Mr Group 1. Makes no difference.

This! I'm not a world traveler or anything, but my family takes 5-6 trips a year by plane. My son has so much crap that he has to take to his competitions that all 3 of us have to check at least one bag. It is generally nearly as cheap to go 1st class than to pay all the extra baggage fees, so we usually end up in rows 1-3. Boggles my mind how often our carry-on bags have to go in bins over rows 7-10 because the handicapped folks, people with small children, active duty military, airline status people they let board first fill up the first few rows of bins so they can just grab it on their way out. I think your ticket ought to be assigned an overhead bin. No matter what order they let you board, your bags should not be stowed in 1st class unless you have a 1st class ticket.

As long as you’re 1 or 2 you’re pretty much gauranteed an overhead spot.
You just answered your own question. People want to avoid paying to check a bag so they bring too much crap on the olane and the overhead compartment fills up fast.

And not boarding back to front is stupid.
This. It makes zero sense to do it any other way.
Restrict overhead storage, fine. I don’t care, if I fly with more than a backpack, I check it. You can even seat first class and business or whatever first if need be. Everyone else should be loaded from the back forward.

For business travelers, checked bags are the bane of our existence. Unless it significantly reduced boarding time, no chance in hell I would be in favor of standing at baggage claim for 20+ minutes waiting. I have damn near needed a shoe horn and Crisco to get clothes packed in a carry on vs moving to the bigger suitcase just to avoid that crap.
That certainly wont apply to all, but for the ones in the airport multiple times a month for only a night or three of travel, to hell with checking a bag that would only move my wait from sitting in my seat while the plane boards to staring at the conveyor belt trying to determine if a bag tag is mine when I could be in an uber already.
