US does not have the players on the pro level like they once had. The Williams sisters were the last of any worth. In the 70s and 80s you had a better crop of US and international players that drew interest. Agassi was the last male player to draw interest for the US.

You can’t be a fatass and play tennis, but plenty of fatties golf. It’s more relatable to them.

The new tennis is pickleball. It's all the rage and easy to play.
Getting downvoted but it’s the truth, pickleball courts are popping up everywhere.

Andy Roddick was kind of a big deal for a couple years in the early 2000s, i think just after Agassi- but he never really panned out as a legit star .
I have been thinking for a few years that this kid Taylor Fritz has the potential to be the next big US tennis star- i but like i said, ive been thinking that for about the last 6 or 7 yrs- and i think he just now cracked the top ten- so it’s probably not gonna happen for him on a large scale , though he might win a major at some point after Djokovic finally sputters out .

Nice ! I wish some of my favorite cute female players like Danielle Collins or Donna Vekic would open a school- would make for an awesome guys’ trip, haha

Because most people don't want to watch 2 sweaty dudes in short, tight clothing grunt at each other.
Golf also has more varied action, slamming white cans with the baws, Larry, bogey from 59, steak sammitches, cart girls, etc

I couldn’t care less about either if I’m honest.

Roddick won the Australian Open the same year Agassi won his last Grand Slam in 2003. He made one or two more finals, but that was right when Nadal and Federer hit the stage and he faded away.
I think Tiafoe has more potential than Fritz. You just can’t predict how these guys will handle the mental side of the game though.

In my experience, watching a couple of chicks play tennis is a good way to get a boner.
Especially when the chicks start scissoring

ESPN had an article on the decline of US tennis a couple years ago, btw.
Good points in that article.. pretty much reinforces what a lot of posters here have been saying- We need a Tiger Woods of tennis .
Also i agree with the article that the style lately, big 6’10” guys with killer serves is really boring to watch.. That’s the style i like to play myself, utilizing my height as a ‘baseline basher’- but it definitely doesnt translate well on tv .

Maybe if we had a huge American superstar male tennis player, tennis would regain its former glory
well no shite.
1983-2003 32 majors won by 7 different Americans (Todd Martin lost two major finals to americans, and two major semifinals (one to an american))
2004-2023 0 majors won by americans
The sport has been dominated by the big 3 the last 20 years, and we couldn't even muster up a decent challenger to them on occasion. At least a guy like Andy Murray and Wawrinka were able to compete in this big 3 era and win 3 majors each. I mean we can't even get a guy into the semi finals, much less win it. Since Roddick retired 11 years ago, i think the only major semifinal we've been in was Isner at Wimbledon a few years ago.

Ugh
I spent a lot of time developing my top spin, high pace baseline shots but I strongly prefer to play net, even in singles. Rather play doubles any day so I can set up a point and get to the net to put it away. I’m not patient enough for a long baseline rally

Tiafoe made the US Open semis last year and went toe-to-toe with Alcaraz.
