The dream can use more landscaping.

I could write a book on this.

I have found that the American Dream is anything but boring.

It’s hard. But it isn’t boring.

I thank God everyday for being here.

I was talking with one of my running friends today on the way home from a race and she mentioned how much I actively engage in travel, races, etc... the things that I really enjoy.

I told her I am 51, almost 52 and I MAYBE have about 15 more active years left to do all the things I enjoy at the capacity that I enjoy them now- and I don't have time to waste on 'what if'ing' or putting stuff off for a later date.

For me, at this point in my life, the American Dream is a mindset and not a physical address, job, etc...

This is how I feel, too. I'm not that far behind you at 46, and now that the kids are grown, my home has really decreased in importance to me. I only need it for basic functions now -a place to sleep, shower, cook, keep my stuff (not much, we went hard on getting rid of stuff when we moved to our first 'empty nest'), and drink a few beers on the porch while I listen to my stereo.

I'm able to spend my off time pursuing whatever I feel like now, and am home much less often than is obviously required with children home.

It may not be the cliche 'American Dream' with a white picket fence, I guess, but feels like winning to me.

If you're financially successful you will have more.

If you're old enough you remember the stories of the old timers and realize how good we have it.

Those are starter homes that have obviously just been built as there is not landscaping or cars in the driveway.

Those homes aren’t the goal. Thats where families move when they’re just starting out. That’s the problem I have with these posts I see about some bland neighborhood. Those homes are a nice place to live as you’re pursuing the American dream. They aren’t the mountain top. Yet these posts act as if that’s the end product of the American dream.

By the way, there is absolutely nothing wrong with those homes. It’s better than virtually any other country.

That picture is not realistic.. you need every driveway to have two cars parked in the driveway.. the garage occasionally opened and spilling out with stuff the kids have outgrown like toddler bikes.. an occasional visitor car cluttering the street.. one Karen with her special child of four years riding his power wheels suv in middle of the street as she has her back to him and is texting on her phone.

I have a small house and a tiny yard but i would hate to have to take the elevator or stairs 10 floors down just to touch some grass. I would hate not having any place to grow things. My neighborhood would look like the OP too if nobody watered their grass, planted a garden, or went outside. That area looks abandoned. Probably owned by Blackrock or Blackstone or whatever.

All in what you make it. Grew up on a relatively similar street (with more trees). Played with a ton of kids from house to house. Played football in the street and road our bikes everywhere. Would be in an out of other houses playing Nintendo, etc.

The adults knew each other and would hang out and celebrate holidays together.

Sounds like the tool on x painting with a wide brush is boring.

Looks like an upscale trailer park. Glad I don’t live in a neighborhood.
