Do they ask for a picture of your water heater
No they sent a photo/video inspector to survey the interior and exterior of the house. Three of the water heaters are on 2nd floor and one is on first floor.
Im replacing them now but it’s ridiculous to give me a week to fix this or I’m dropped.

state farm just sent me a list of things, like handrails, new roof and trim trees, or they will not renew in November. I've been with them since 1979

Actually last summer the heating element broke on our water heater (in attic). Fixed it. Decided to get a quote to replace it. Quote was $3,100. $700 for the water heater, and $2,400 for installation, because apparently they needed to redo this and that and etc. I was so insanely pissed off I blew off replacing it.
That's crazy. I replaced my 2006 unit last week, it was about to finally bite the dust. $1,450 to replace. I probably could have handled it myself, but the installation cost included removing and hauling off the old one, plus he went and bought it and brought it to the house. I upgraded from a 40 gallon to a 50 gallon as well. I'm sure I'll only get 10 years or so out of the new one, but it should be more efficient, and those extra gallons will come in handy with teenagers taking long showers.

Go to one or two tankless water heaters, will not be much more if any more and then don’t have to worry about water heater leaks

Idk what some folks are talking about ITT. My insurance company has never laid eyes on any of my houses let alone the ~13 year old one I live in right now
They have no clue about most of my house
I also have a tankless heater, idk if it saves any money or costs me a little extra but I like it a lot better than a tanked heater for multiple reasons

Changed ours out about 2 years ago. $1500 total. Pilot light would go out alot and there was never enough hot water at bathtime.
Rheem looked up the serial # and it was from 1965.
ETA: Almost needless to say, bought the longest warranty Rheem to replace it.

Who still has tanked water heaters? Thought those went away.

My insurance company has no idea how old my water heater is.

Damn. Some of y'all need to buy a harbor freight special winch and use it to drag a new water heater into the attic yourself.
2k for labor to replace a water heater is a joke. it's 3 MIP connections and some self tappers to re-install the exhaust.

I have two tankless and wouldn’t consider anything else. You could probably reduce your 4 down to two tankless.
I’ve got a tankless unit in a condo that gets occupied about one month per year.
It’s been wonderful.

“ The new ones really only last ~10 yrs, built for obsolescence. I replace them at year 10 in rental units because $400 is nothing compared to a flooded unit and pissed off renters. That being said I did not realize insurance companies were now mandating it.”
Where can I get water heaters for $400?
Many of the insurance companies use satellite photos. So I’ve been told.

I bought one at Lowe’s last year for 500$. Me and FIL put it in. We almost died getting it up in the attic by ourselves though. The other water heater is way in the back of the attic; I’d probably sell the house before I’d change that one.

Exactly. Can be done for $750-800 in labor, plus the $750 for the 45 gallon water heater. Anything more is probably unnecessary. Some will have water damage, no doubt, but I did not. One quote I got was to completely replace my drip pan and the plumbing of the pan to the exterior of my home. Completely not needed. Glad I shopped around. Cheaper plumber said I was totally good and didn't need a new drip pan, just a new water heater.

Can confirm Liberty Mutual is not. They dont know I have a water heater. Not sure they even know I have running water.

The last house I built for myself had 2 water heaters. A 40 gallon for Kitchen, washroom and half bath. A 50 gallon for the hall and master bath.

This is why I always move my water heaters outside. Don't have to worry any this bs.

Water heaters started to suck once they made it to where you couldn't access the pilot area without removing multiple panels. If you have one with the old honeywell control without the light you're doing well.
They only rot out because people don't change the sacrificial anode. You change the anode after 5 years and no rusty tank.
Though the best I think is to build a water heater shed outside and move them there. Or do a tankless.
