What specific laws have trial lawyers passed that benefit their profession?

You must be a lawyer. Lol

All these attorneys are making many millions.
That isn’t because an insurance company isn’t paying medical bills appropriately. That’s silly.

companies are operating at a loss each and every year in this state.
Which ones?

Just about all of them. It’s extremely difficult for an auto insurer to profitably do business in Louisiana on a consistent basis.

How about a link bruh? I recently recall several companies looking for a rate decrease from the insurance commission.

That decrease was an average decrease across the board statewide. Meaning while some saw a slight decrease, many still saw increases. I do not have a link as I am no longer in the property & casualty business as of earlier this year but I can tell you without a doubt that for the past 10 years (that I know of), almost no auto insurer in Louisiana made a profit.

Because they realized their rate increases were more than they needed to be able to remain what’s called “rate adequate”. Yes, they may have made a slight profit in the last 12 months and started filing for rate decreases but I guarandamntee you that next year they’re all filing for increases again because they’re not going to remain rate adequate and/or profitable. And by the way — not every auto insurer in the state filed for a decrease recently.

Mark my words and if I’m wrong you can frick my wife. That’s how damn confident I am. Believe me, I know this business like the back of my hand.

Ah yes, the trial lawyer lobby was especially strong in 1918 when direct action was first passed.

I’m not here to defend attorneys but insurance companies are some of the biggest rackets ever created. Have you seen health insurance?

Car insurance in Louisiana does suck but that’s because people with no actual damages trying to recover policy limits. So you can blame it on the money hungry unhurt people who have to hire an attorney. You can’t blame it on the attorney.

Also, we have a ton of dumbass drivers in this state. I could get in a wreck almost every day that’s not my fault if I wanted to.

I may take that bet but I'll need a pic first...

And State Farm put in for one --that covers almost half the market just right there...

Great point, they have killed any tort reform legislation.

I agree but market share and numbers of auto insurers in this state losing money each year are two different things. Apples and oranges.

A State Representative /trial lawyer, through his committee chairmanship involved with the Dept. of Insurance, used his position to obtain records, from the State Risk Dept. detailing which State road ways were the highest risk of traffic accidents. This information was collected by the Dept.of Transportation. He then turned round and used these records to file his lawsuits against the State. etc etc etc

I see a lot of Jon Bel Edwards signs in front of law offices around New Orleans. That’s all I need to see to know that it’s all one big racket/political game that doesn’t have the best interest of our state

No lawyer is worth a damn...........until you need one then they become a savior.

There are scumbags on every side. Some lawyers are completely ethical, some not so much. Don't judge every lawyer by the actions of a few.

I for one wish they'd outlaw these mega lawyer billboards and ads as I think it often encourages pieces of shite to fake injuries, defraud, lie, etc.

But you can't condemn a lawyer who plays by rules that allow them to do what they're doing.

Lawyers are just taking advantage of the system and making a very legal buck - and lots of bucks! Nothing wrong with what they’re doing.

bullshite, they are paying plenty to get people in office so they are not hassled about doing this “very honest work”. Everyone passes the buck but this right here is where it all starts and stops. People bitch about insurance rates but then turn right around and say “lawyers are just exposing the loopholes”. Feed that stupid shite to someone else

Notice that I said "tried". When they are actually tried and not settled they are usually before a jury. That is 100% accurate
