Trump says U.S. is taking control of Venezuela’s oil reserves.
I don’t like this blood for resources foreign policy, but I understand that’s been global politics for literally human history
quote:
We’re going to have our very large United States oil companies — the biggest anywhere in the world — go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure, the oil infrastructure,” Trump said at a news conference at Mar-a-Lago.
quote:
The United States, the world’s largest oil producer, has light, sweet crude, which is good for making gasoline but not much else. Heavy, sour crude like the oil from Venezuela is crucial for certain products made in the refining process, including diesel, asphalt and fuels for factories and other heavy equipment. Diesel is in tight supply around the world — in large part because of sanctions on Venezuelan oil.
Unlocking Venezuelan oil could be particularly beneficial to the United States: Venezuela is nearby and its oil is relatively cheap — a result of its sticky, sludgy texture that requires significant refining. Most U.S. refineries were constructed to process Venezuela’s heavy oil, and they’re significantly more efficient when they’re using Venezuelan oil compared to American oil, according to Flynn

It was always about the oil which makes it funny reading the idiots on here try and say it's about drugs, illegal immigration, "tyranny" or any of the other bullshite excuses people tried to say this was about. If you believe any of that bullshite, you probably still believe we went into Iraq for WMD.
This president is bought and paid for by the MIC and Oil execs. This was a thank you to both of those industries.

Nope, we will stay there until the next round of elections and ensure fair elections. In other words we won't let dimtards anywhere near the election!

It will be very interesting to watch the stock market Monday. It will either be real good or real bad.

Meh.
I don’t think it will be a big market mover.

And I don't mean the type y'all tried to impeach him over with regards to Ukraine, actual corruption and illegal activities.

You’d be dancing in the streets if your boy Biden did this
Maduro has hosted international “anti-fascist” conferences and networking events. You can Google or GPT this for more information on it.
Of course “fascism” is anything to the right of Maduro.
Frankly, his support for these organizations is reason enough for me to support the strikes. Which is the same reason TT and mmbeer are against the strikes.

This is a Noriega type of situation. He was using drug cartels to gain and keep power, while allowing them to use his country's infrastructure and resources to smuggle drugs into the US.
Then why don't we care about Colombia or Mexico? Why did he pardon the president of Honduras, convicted of drug trafficking?
The drugs thing does not pass any sniff test.

Trump also pardoned an ex Honduran President known for pushing drugs to the US.

I don’t know. What are his justifications?
I’m not saying I agree with these actions, but what do you think the reasons for them are? I’m not sure “oil” gets us there either.

fricking Google it then and look at the answer. Why do others need to do your research for you?

Kindof leaning that way as well. I could see both movement in heavy crude up or down on this.
All the sanctioned crude out there has a large potential of being unsanctioned and that could crush the oil market.
Looking at some of the movement of venezuelan crude over the last few weeks it certainly seems like a blip was priced in.

President Trump said Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as Venezuela’s interim president and would act as a partner in letting the United States run the country. “She’s essentially willing to do what we think is necessary to make Venezuela great again,” he said. Less than two hours later, Ms. Rodríguez — who was Nicolás Maduro’s vice president — delivered a televised address to Venezuela that made clear she viewed the United States as an illegal invader that must be rejected. “We are determined to be free,” she said. “What is being done to Venezuela is a barbarity.”
Her swift defiance of Mr. Trump made clear that his plans to swoop into the South American nation and run it as his own faced many more hurdles than he suggested in his Saturday news conference declaring victory in Venezuela. “We had already warned that an aggression was underway under false excuses and false pretenses, and that the masks had fallen off, revealing only one objective: regime change in Venezuela,” she said. “This regime change would also allow for the seizure of our energy, mineral and natural resources. This is the true objective, and the world and the international community must know it.”
Significantly, Ms. Rodríguez delivered her address alongside what she called Venezuela’s National Defense Council, which included the nation’s defense minister, attorney general and the heads of the country’s legislature and judiciary. That unified front directly contradicted Mr. Trump’s claim that the United States would run Venezuela, especially given that White House and Pentagon officials had said that U.S. forces had already withdrawn from the nation. Venezuela’s defense minister and attorney general also both publicly criticized Mr. Trump and the U.S. military action on Saturday. In his news conference, Mr. Trump said that Venezuelan leaders must comply with the United States or else. “All political and military figures must realize that what happened to Maduro can happen to them,” he said. Ms. Rodríguez’s speech also made clear that Mr. Maduro’s supporters — including her — still see him as the nation’s legitimate leader.
She repeatedly said that Mr. Maduro was Venezuela’s “only president” and even the text on Venezuelan state television labeled her as vice president. When she ended, the state broadcaster said that Ms. Rodríguez was the vice president who had just stated that Mr. Maduro was Venezuela’s president.

This seems to be going well. I’m sure it’s all part of the plan.
