From a political standpoint a lot of people immediately assume it’s liberals moving to those places, but often it’s conservatives moving to those places. Liberal states are going to lose electoral votes if this trend continues.

After this election cycle, I’m less worried about libs turning Texas blue, and more worried about property taxes and me being able to afford to live on the dimes I earn. I’m lucky that it’s still cheap to live in South Texas, but with Elon getting his claws into the Rio Grande Valley and the steady growth on the southside of my city, it feels like I’m in for a fight.

True. I was worried about OK and checked the registration stats and Dems lost a ton of voters and Pubs gained a ton (2020 compared to 2024). I was shocked but happy!

Louisiana was once the #10 ranked state in population as recently as early 80s.

The never ending exponential increase in property taxes is beginning to drive a lot of people out of the state.

That must be why it's the second fastest growing state

Not buying any of this.

FACT:
The Census Bureau is historically 3/5ths raciss.

Don’t know where to apply the correction factor.

Depends on one’s definition of “always”.

If you mean always going forward, I must agree.

If you mean always as in since history, I must disagree.

Look up the 1840, 1850, and 1860 US Census data.

And specific to Louisiana, it was in a place envied by all other former Confederate States until 1960/1970 or thereabouts.

A cyclical roller coaster with ebbs and flows every few years. None of them are perfect. None of them terrible. …..except for Louisiana…We’ll always be terrible

Something like a half million people received the Earned Income Credit in Louisiana last year. How large do you think the employable population is there? Maybe 2.5 million?

So ~20% of wage earners pay negative income tax in the state. Another 6-8% of the workforce is unemployed and pays zero income tax. Few of these people pay property tax.

This is just among people who actually work, or at least claim to be trying to work. Now think of the flat-out ne'er-do-wells. That's probably another couple hundred thousand people, minimum, who pay no tax other than sales tax.

If you want the people actually relying on the government to tighten their belts and pay for any of that nonsense, sales tax is the way to do it. A national sales tax would go a long way towards fixing this country, but sadly irrational pearl-clutching from both parties will never allow it.

Guys, largest US population in decades, because of "migration".

quote:

Net international migration, which refers to any change of residence across U.S. borders (the 50 states and the District of Columbia), was the critical demographic component of change driving growth in the resident population. With a net increase of 2.8 million people, it accounted for 84% of the nation’s 3.3 million increase in population between 2023 and 2024. This reflects a continued trend of rising international migration, with a net increase of 1.7 million in 2022 and 2.3 million in 2023.

Imagine if we didn't count illegals in the numbers that determine federal spending and congressional seats.
