frick Afghanistan.

If you want freedom you should be willing to fight for it. They do not want freedom, they want to be ruled by the Taliban.

We were there for almost an entire generation. If the young people wanted democracy they should have fought for it.

My only regret are all the lives and limbs lost to that shithole. We should have nuked it and never put a single boot on the ground.

Didn't he delay the Trump withdrawal plan by months so that he could take credit for it? Probably the most politician think a person could do.
IDK but Trump had a full term to get us out. Obama had two. Bush miscalculated and mishandled from the beginning. There was enough shite in that sandwich for everyone to get a bite.

We absolutely brought them the opportunity. They prefer shithole, and Taliban rule. Let them have it.

It is really amazing our arrogance to think we could actually change that tribal country.

We, nor anyone else, will ever be able to overcome the tribalism of the Middle East. It is ingrained in them. It would take nearly wiping out generations and subjugating those who remain. You can't beat Nature, and what you are fighting there is Nature.

There are two ways to "win" there. One is complete and total war. You cannot fight a limited war against people with nothing to lose and much more time than money. The second option is to seize and nationalize everything of interest in the country, declare it sovereign American soil, and defend it as such. There is no in between with either of those approaches. You will never, ever, ever "Win the hearts and minds."

It would have been like occupying the US West and making Cherokee, Mojave, Navajo, and all the other tribes unite under a common western constitutional government.

What we should have done after we slaughtered them and conquered the place… which took all of what, 6 months? … was hand the keys to the most brutal enemies the Taliban had, and said “if we have to come back, this place will become glass”.

Instead, Dubya and Dick tried to turn the place into Wisconsin.

Which should surprise no one, considering “Iraq” is a made up thing that the British just drew on a map. It will fracture on ethno-religious grounds at some point, violently.

Afghanistan isn't worth saving.

Let them murder and enslave each other. They obviously have no interest in anyone's offer to help improve their shithole of a country.

You ever heard of the sunk cost fallacy?

It should piss us off... but doesn’t mean we need to keep throwing good men/money/resources at a winless situation.

So much wasted blood and treasure.

Afghanistan has never been controlled by an outside country for more than a few years, going back to Alexander the Great

How did we not exterminate these vermin? I’m no expert but it seems like if we’d put the full force of the US military into eradicating the taliban instead of going into Iraq…

A problem with your idea is that we were handcuffed as far as rules of engagement. I spent over 20 months conducting route clearance and dismounted combat operations in the Kunar Province in the east. The border with Pakistan would continue to be a major issue, as it was back in 2009, and continues as of today. Foreign fighters, Chechen Mujahideen, ect ect used the border to habitually flood the country with Jihadists.

Whenever our convoys made contact near the Afghan/Pak border the frickers would haul it across the Afghan border to Pakistan. We couldn’t go after these assholes due to rules of engagement and Pakistan essentially supporting the cause of the Taliban. Air strikes and Artillery has to be carefully used, because if Pakistan was hit, shite would’ve hit the fan.

----But the British also drew the borders of Saudi Arabia and Jordan and they've been stable.

Both countries have sizable religious minorities.

Think of all of the contractors that got rich off of the gulf wars. Hope it was worth the dead American soldiers and innocents.

We are simply pawns in a game to the political elite.
