re: Washington's Mount Rainier has suddenly awoken and is buzzing with almost nonstop activity

I believe the greatest threat to life and property would be lahars (glacial floods) rather than lava flows. Lava from stratovolcanoes tends to be highly viscous and thus flows pretty slowly…there would be ample time to evacuate. Water/ice/mud/debris would be on top of you much quicker
there are a couple hundred thousand people living on top of the deposits from previous lahar flows, very similar to living in or on a flood plain

RIght now it is BS...they weren't even worried when it had much more activity earlier this summer. They monitor this sucker probably more than any other active volcano in the US right now. It's not "due for at least another 1000 years

I'd like to dedicate this eruption to Sky King. He would've love to see it.

Agreed.
If you look at the map I posted I believe it's the area shaded in pink that has the most level of concern.
It's hard to tell from the scale of the map but it's a very large area.
I'd be a tad nervous if my home was nearby.

Coincidence Seattle just elected a socialist mayor? I think not

Last major eruption was 1000 years ago.

If an eruption caused something like the 5,000 year ago Osceola mudflow from Ranier it would destroy several towns between the volcano and Seattle. It could potentially cause destruction of downtown Seattle and tidal waves in Puget Sound

This is a much better map than I originally posted that shows the path the melting glacial ice, mud and rocks would follow if she were to erupt.

Well Mt. Rainier is one of Washington’s five active volcanoes, so yes, it will erupt again someday. Thankfully the areas of danger are somewhat prepared. In Orting, probably the worst place to be for an eruption, has regular volcano evacuation drills in the schools.

No, not likely at all. Downtown Seattle would be unaffected unless the prevailing wind dumped a ton of ash there. It is not in danger for the mudflows. The ports of both Seattle and Tacoma would be impacted and places like Orting, Sumner, and downtown Puyallup could be wiped out.

Who does? It’s pronounced Ray-near.

the patterns being seen in Washington look more like a volcanic tremor, a type of nonstop hum or roar that begins when magma, hot water, and gas moves around inside a volcano.
Except in my case it is imminent.

The Cascades Volcano Observatory and the PNSN cooperatively operate 11 seismometers on or near Mount Rainier. In an average month, 3-10 well-located, high-frequency earthquakes are recorded near the summit of Mt. Rainier. In addition, small swarms of 10+ earthquakes over a 2-3-day time period sometimes occur.

For a feeling of scale, those smaller mountains at the base of Ranier in this picture are around the upper 6000 ft range in elevation….which is around the elevation of Mt Mitchell…the highest point east of the Mississippi.
It is HUGE.

Why waste energy worrying about it?
If it happens, it happens. There is nothing that anybody can do to prevent it.
