Correct its not that bad. Construction on hotels, apartments, and houses are booming in West Texas. I like the area and would have no problem moving if i was single and younger.

Find a place in Midland and give it a shot for a couple of years. Hope the money is good.

Lived out there for 4 months once. It’s awful and I hope the pay is high if you consider it. Men to women ratio has got to be the worst in the country. Anyone you’re checking out is someone’s trophy wife that snagged a man from Houston or Dallas or a high schooler which makes you feel like a pervert.
And the rent is out of fricking control. Cheapest place I could find that wasn’t a shitty motel was 2 grand a month, and then within a few months after that I moved to a nice part of Dallas with more square feet and only had to pay $1500 a month. Do not go there if you are single unless your pay is absolutely insane, in which case you’ll be flying places like Denver and Dallas pretty frequently.

My advice is pretty much the opposite. It’s a really horrible place to meet chicks and you have to fly somewhere to meet anyone worth a shite. Once the girls leave high school they do not come back until they have a trophy husband around their arm.

Second worst place I’ve ever lived with McAllen being it’s only competition. Sorry, Midland sucks.

Not saying I’d live in McAllen, but it’s a much nicer city.
Young man like yourself, I’d figure you’d slay down there. McAllen, Mission, and Sharyland has a fine concentration of Latino women.

It’s exactly the opposite - a nice place to raise a family but a tough place to be a single man. A single woman goes from a 5 to an 8 just by moving there.

Midland/Odessa is pretty bad...most of what OMLandshark posted is accurate.
My grandparents lived there, along with a good bit of my extended family, so I spent a good bit of my childhood in the Permian Basin.
It was a shithole when the Bush family moved there, it was a shithole back when there was a Rolls Royce dealership in town, and it's a shithole now.
It's alright...some places are just shitholes.

I'm gonna have to disagree with this. I would rate McAllen well ahead of Midland. There is way more mischief to get into there plus you can be into some damn good saltwater fishing within a short drive. The only small redeeming quality of the Permian is it is somewhat close to decent skiing .
