The now deceased, fomer board chairman of a local bank used to pick up cans on the side of the road. When somebody asked him about it, he said, "that's why I'm rich and you're not."

Idk if I'd say they're wealthy, but my parents do quite well while still being some of the cheapest, most frugal people you'd ever meet.
They have a toaster that one of the bread slots is slightly jammed so it doesn't eject all the way. One piece of toast pops up, but the other one just sits in the bottom. You have to reach in with like a fork and half burn your finger half get shocked every time.
It's so dumb, but they won't buy another one "because it still works" lol.

Friend of mine has a bunch of property in Hawaii, but visited the soup kitchen for a while to save money on food.

I did this the other day. There was a literal herd of children, 6 to be exact, plus a screamin infant. 2 couples, waitress brought 1 check to Bubba in his tank top. He fumbled around with cash to pay for check and left her a $1 Bill. I went over and talked to her afterwards and gave her some. Little ole girl almost teared up.

I saw a multimillionaire give a one dollar tip to Gilligan.

My grandfather was a multi-millionaire and only drank Natural Light. Also drove a 15 yr old truck.

You can buy store brand ketchup for $1.

we've been married for a bit less than 20 years and our toaster has this exact problem and i refuse to get a new one. except i unplug the toaster to get the fork in there.
that toaster is probably the only item we still have from our first apartment together that we've kept.

My grandparents were pretty wealthy but lived in a 1400 sq ft house their entire lives that my paw paw built himself. They drove old vehicles, grew much of their own food etc.
They both grew up in Great Depression and living any other way would have been entirely foreign to them.

When I was a kid, we had extended family in town and Grandpa took us all out to dinner. There was a 10 year old boy who lived a few houses down the street who happened to be playing at our house when we all went out to eat so he was invited to come along. When we were done eating Grandpa asked for the check and told the waitress to put the 10 year old's meal on his own separate check because "he didn't know that boy".

I eat lunch with a group of guys on a regular basis at a casual joint where your meal is easily under 10 bucks. One of our group is worth 20-30 million, and will often bring his own sandwich in a sack rather than pay 8-10 bucks.

Self made rich people didn’t get that way by being loose with their money

I played golf in a group with our CEO once, dude is a multi millionaire and was picking up Tee's around the T Box and putting them in his pocket. ?
I used to play with a doctor that hunts for golf balls on every hole with a ball retriever. He would get a ton of satisfaction pulling Noodles and Pinnacles out of the woods and water.
He will also hit a ball in the woods and look for 15 minutes.
I don't play with him anymore.

I will never understand this. There is a difference between being wasteful and being ridiculously frugal. Why have any money if you refuse to enjoy it? You can't spend it when you're dead.

You aren't seeing the big picture. Yes, it's only three dollars for ketchup that one time but it adds up.

That's actually worse than squeezing the pack in the bottle...

My grandparents:
brush off paper plates and reuse...also wash ziplocks for reuse.
air dry the clothes and towels on a clothes line outside.
Their dryer is about 40 years old.
