It’s a combination of gps and the fact teachers are told to focus on what is on the proficiency tests.

Why you limiting this to Americans?
Because all these other shite countries literally don’t matter and can blow us.
We’ve been subsidizing them far too long.
That’s why.
Tell the UK guys to get back home and clean their streets up.

Part of the problem with severe weather warnings is that a not insignificant number of people can't even pick out the county/parish they live in on a map. Anything beyond that is certainly asking too much of people......apparently.

I think it's a gender thing. My wife can't even navigate Disneyworld with a GPS phone map showing her exactly how to get where she wants to go much less try to figure out what direction a certain business is in our hometown from where she's at without getting an app to look it up for her. Then I can find my way in the dark to my deerstand with nothing but a flashlight without looking at a map at all and know which direction I'm headed. Men are hunters, women are meant to stay put in the kitchen.
I asked my girlfriend if she could make it to Los Angeles from where we live in Pensacola without gps, and she said no.

FWIW; I’ve never had a ‘GPS’ in my vehicle. I buy what I can afford.

How is it in your life that you are able to test this metric with 75% of people you meet? Are you just randomly asking people where things are in relation to where you are?
And don’t say it’s for work, because you work at a bank.

SERIOUS QUESTION:
How many phone numbers do you personally know in your head without having to look at your phone?

Probably 100. I also have about 40 customers who pay by credit cards and I have most of those memorized.

Before GPS, I used to drive around with a Randy-McNally map book of the United States. I also had map books of various states. One of these days I'll get some new ones to keep in the car.

How old? If she is young, I can understand why she is stupid.

Damn, I used to know dozens of phone numbers before cell phones but now I’m down to immediate family members only. I don’t even know my own CC number.

She likely wants to forget they exist.

How does this even happen? I can’t imagine being that clueless with maps or geography. 75% of the people I meet are like this. They practically need a GPS to get from Metairie to Mandeville.
Mapquest followed by Google Maps and Waze and easily accessible, cheap gps for driving.
Btw I’m like this. I’m absolutely terrible with geographic spacial awareness and I have no idea where something is. The instant gps in my pocket has only made it worse.

Because 'social studies' in school these days does NOT include geography but DOES include gender studies, learning how to protest (even if you have no idea what you're protesting), etc.
I taught World History a couple of years ago. Before we dove into history I had to spend a couple of weeks teaching geography. I knew we were in trouble when I sent the students to the board and, when asked to point to south America, they pointed to Africa.
And the cardinal directions?!?! Forget about it.

GPS in vehicles has been standard for at least 10 years and Google Maps is a free app on any phone that’s not a flip phone.
It’s good to be good with directions and geographic awareness, but this “flex” of yours is retarded.
