Well, the right likes it because the left hasn’t ruined it yet.

The left likes it because Austin creates the illusion that you can have progressive insanity with all the benefits of a conservatively governed state.

But if leftists get their way, they will destroy it, just like they do everywhere else. Then they will go on and find a new place to destroy. They’re like a swarm of locusts. The consume and destroy them move on to somewhere better off, then consume and destroy that.

To the OP, there is nowhere in TX as pretty as Blue Ridge, Hiawassee, Dahlonega, Blood Mtn, etc.

True, but they are being infested. Wife and I have been going to Blue Ridge for almost ten years now, and every time we come back it's more and more progressive ticks from Atlanta.

First off - Texas is awesome, because it takes up most of the continental US as seen in this map

Once you get out of the cities, Texas really is a amazing state with great people. Honest hard working people. You do not come to Texas for the beauty of the state (it does not really have it), you come for the nice peace of life that is Texan.

Because the cities are filled with gape mouth progs, the rural areas are filled with ranchers, farmers and hunters.

You get to enjoy all the things this funds in Texas though, all the public stuff is nice.

I’ll take that all day over paying 70% less in Louisiana sending my kids to private school and never using a public property

This all day long.

No state income tax.
Higher property tax.
No need to pay for private school.
Local/neighborhood amenities.

And at least with property taxes, one can choose to live in a small house or in a place where there aren’t a bunch of MUD taxes to pay off.

With a state income tax, to lessen the burden, you only choice is…to make less money. Be less productive. I guess that could work for some folks, likely those who vote a certain way.

Also tell me where to move since I can control that.

So you can live anywhere in the state? Do you need to be near a major airport or anything?

What interests do you hold? City life, country life, Hunt, fish, arts, etc.

You can either have more personal freedoms, or you can have weed. Why not just move to California or Colorado, rather than demanding another state enact liberal policies that will ruin Texas?

Booming economy, no state income tax, and progressive large cities attract the liberals.

I am a 5th generation Texan and grew up on a farm in west Texas. I worked in downtown Dallas for three years and was shocked at the number of transplants that I worked with as just a handful of colleagues were native Texans. The transplants bitched all day about Texas but wouldn’t move. I left as quick as I could and moved back to a rural setting to be around more natives and conservatives.

Someday soon, we will lose our state to the cancer that is liberal transplants. I will never understand how people can move somewhere and not be respectful of the local customs and culture instead of just expecting change to suit their preferences.

Houston proper is sure, but the amount of suburbs with something different to offer are immense

Extremely.! Also, traffic isn’t as terrible as you people make it sound. I’ve only been here since Covid and I hear that that it was worse then, but traffic is manageable. I looked at Katy, Cinco Ranch, Sugarland but decided or Kingsland on an impulse. May as well be in front of that Katy Traffic coming into town and closer to the Houston metro attractions. I move this weekend and can’t wait.

I can see why people don’t like Houston though. For me, it just offers so much to do. I don’t have kids so I need to stuff to do. Houston has lots of it and most of it is inexpensive, plus they get traveling things like all concert tours and UFC fights. Bike trials for days. I like the Latinas too.

Just curious, how does restricting freedom give you more freedom?

Because to progressives, the only customs and culture worth anything are theirs. All others are to be destroyed.
