OT Balla!
Hardly. Southlake is barely affordable on two income family budget; we are here for the ISD.
There are places like Arlington or Grand Prairie that are not as nice that we could live and be ballers.

Great. But if I have to pay money and get permission to build an implement shed, then that is not happening.
that may a municipality thing in some places, but as I mentioned previously, builders in TX don't even have to be licensed so I doubt that's much of a thing, certainly isn't where I live

Everything other than the cities you identified

Can’t speak for everyone, but moving from NOLA to Houston 8 years ago was the best decision I’ve made.
Transferred within the company for a better opportunity and my quality of life is much better. Met my wife here which makes more money than I do. I can still visit NOLA whenever we want by using one of the 2 major airports to fly in and out.
I enjoy NOLA more now that I fly in for a day or two for family, friends, food, fun. But then get out of town before everything I love about New Orleans…gets obnoxious.
We love traveling and Houston is a great place to start from. Rather centrally located and a ton of direct flights.

We love Grapevine, especially Esparza’s, haha. I would assume COL is pretty high there though right?

California liberals are flooding places like Fredericksburg... Sad to see
That is where I live and it is troubling. Too many folks from Austin that don't share small town living ideals. They want the perks of living in this setting without contributing to the community. Only silver lining is that they don't bring children with them. I've seen a re-commitment from conservatives to step up and fill board positions, etc. to keep libs out of local government.

So…Fort Worth.
I have to be in Las Colinas but if I had my choice a little south of Weatherford would win. Kind of the northern hill country but still within two hours of DFW.

I lived in round rock for 20+ years after growing up in san antonio. I've traveled the entire state and have done everything there is to do. Williamson county has totally changed. It started 10 years ago, but the last five have been noticeably different. The community is entirely different from 20 years ago. My local HEB looks like the UN now, not to mention the MS13 looking mf's shopping there. Unimaginable. The immigration to TX from all corners of the US (and generous flow over the border) is absolutely going to ruin the state and what made being a 'Texan' something special.
The family does alot of hiking, camping, ultrarunning and outdoors stuff. We decided to buy a place in CO Springs. Although the state is blue and sometimes red, the area I'm in is the most conservative (not political) group of folks I've been around. Sure, Denver and Boulder pretty much control the state, but it doesn't feel like it. I'm more than happy now to be in a state that is beautiful and have access to all the recreation. I also don't miss the $10k in property taxes. I'll miss the memory of what it was like to live in state in the 80's and 90's.

I have a daughter that lives in Texas, never thought she would leave LA, but she would never go back. She loves it over there.

Ok, those same states people are fleeing because of overburdensome government, and thus fleeing to Texas.
Montana has legal recreational weed and people are not fleeing from Montana to Texas

Sounds like you cover a large part of Texas but if Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston are your main areas, you may consider looking at the Waco area, you’d be less than 3 hours from all those cities and have most any conveniences you’d need.
Posted on 1/11/22 at 10:44 am to HighlyFavoredTiger
Waco has a shite airport which may be a problem for OP depending on his travel. Tinly little EMB-135 to DFW is the only option.
From Austin you can get most places in the state on Southwest, same for Houston (United/Southwest) abd Dallas (American/Southwest).
San Antonio also has decent connectivity within the Southwest system.

Texas has one thing going for it, that no other state in the union can come close to matching.
For the past 40-50 years, its poorest, lowest class of citizens (legal and otherwise) are INFITELY more hard working and a more honest, family oriented demographic than that same demographic in other states. And its not debatable.
Dirt poor Hispanics are by no means perfect, but name a state wear the lowest 20% of its residents are less of a burden on its overall quality of life.

Texas still has economic opportunity for middle class people, unlike many parts of the country.
Poor people can easily advance in Texas.

Texas has no income tax and tends to run things well from a tax, infrastructure, and business climate perspective at the local level. In addition, their economic development organizations tend to donate large tracts of land to corporations in order to entice development.
Other states, especially Louisiana, tries to make companies grease palms in order to develop anything there while Texas greases the palms of the companies to convince them to develop in Texas.
