The nicer west side neighborhoods have totally different scenery.

Where specifically? It is a flat ugly rice field until you get to Bellville or Brenham.

I'm guessing they are referring to Memorial/Tanglewood, possibly Stablewood or River Oaks. Those are all nice, wooded west side neighborhoods.

There’s sometimes I wouldn’t mind landing in Los Fresnos or Point Isabel. If I were a single dude that wanted some bay fishing it would be a good life.

I'm not a fan of the suburbs at all. I've lived in Uptown and now HP and I love the fact that I can walk pretty much anywhere.
Great place if you can afford it. Average prices there are what, around $5 million?

You claim you've spent lots of time in Texas yet this is your favorite? You need to get out more.

Figured out that this is actually a place in Dallas. Still a weird take. It's a place made to look trendy, old hill country, yet it's been in operation 10 years. I'm sure it's nice, but you still need to get out more.

The Houston parking lot stereotype only applies to certain areas

It is over blown. Houston is ranked in top 10 US cities for most green space per capita. But since it’s so spread out, there is also a ton of concrete and seemingly forever driving.

It's Katy Trail Ice House and yes it is modeled on Austin/Hill Country outdoor bars. Its a cool place non-the-less although its super crowded now but there are many other places with cool outdoor spaces in Dallas now thanks to the success of Katy Trail and Lee Harvey's which was probably the OG outdoor "austin" place in Dallas.

No. Actually happy to not be living in Houston. Just curious as to where the so-called garden spots are. I know the city fairly well. Great restaurants and nice people but nothing pretty about it.

Those are definitely nice areas as are The Villages, West U and Bellaire but not western suburbs and the entry point is over $750K-$1M so not necessarily affordable to the proletariat.

Are we including the burbs in this? Or just Houston metro? I would actually agree with you if just Metro. Anywhere in the loop with lots of green space isn't really financially approachable, unless you're single and apartment living.

But the burbs have some great "garden areas" to live and raise a family. Friendswood, Manvel, Kingwood, etc...

There's a whole lot more to where you live than whether it's pretty or not. It's not like I'm living my life looking out a window or hiking and traveling every day.

Now that my kids are grown, I like being near a large airport, being near events like plays, concerts, sporting events, having parks nearby, having lots of fun restaurant and bar choices. When my kids were younger I liked having great schools where I lived, having lots of activities for them, places to play in my neighborhood.

Pretty isn't what most people do in everyday life. It's a weekend or vacation thing. Most of the time, with kids, there was too much to do each weekend to enjoy the pretty anyway.

The prices there are insane like everywhere else now. Thankfully we managed to get in before it went bonkers. No way I could afford it now.
