Only in Louisiana is reality and cold hard fact deemed 'retarded'. Should be example #1 why this state is so screwed in the long term.

When it comes to the billions of dollars in tax breaks and subsidies that Louisiana provides, the ability of their workforce to see a concert is not even remotely on these companies radar.

Entertainment? Holy shite, that's the most insane thing I'll see on the internet today. Just absolutely gobsmackingly dumb.

The workforce is Louisiana is so geared to that one industry, they are effectively slaves to that industry. They have no other options. The relative access to a cinema is less than nothing.

You're an idiot if you don't think entertainment and similar doesn't play a part in where companies choose to locate. Montana doesn't have sales tax and real estate is cheap, why don't businesses go there since it's all financial.

"Louisiana stays poor because it’s citizens don’t value education while it’s politicians are complicit in nefarious activities that take care of themselves first."

You wanna know why Louisiana stays poor? All the evidence you need is layered throughout the responses to your OP. Person after person who believes things that are directly contradicted by reality, yet they keep holding onto to those beliefs despite all evidence to the contrary that they're miles off base.

People pointing the same old fingers at things that have nothing to do with the actual problem because their parents and peers did and do the same. They weren't given the ability in the shitty schools they went to to critically reason and take in and digest information that goes against the ingrained bullshite they've been spoon fed by all the nefarious forces that want to keep them hating the wrong things and keep them focused on the things that have nothing to do with the situation at hand.

I agree with the diversification but the state has invested. It’s the parents that have not. Now generations are engrained in their disdain/disregard for education.

Nah. Just because individually they enjoy their lifestyle doesn't mean they're stupid.

My brothers a CPA, loves living in NWLA. Most people I know are similar. They understand the State is a mess, but land and houses are inexpensive and they have a good lifestyle.

This is an important point and something I saw much of in OK and south GA, as well. The folks who have money, connections, and the social network to actually bring about change are, for the most part, COMPLETELY uninterested in changing the status quo.

New restaurants, bars, and shopping? No thanks..too much traffic.

Higher property taxes to pay for schools or infrastructure? No thanks...my kid goes to a good school and I have 30 acres and don't give a shite about a new community park.

New industrial parks? Not in my backyard!

This is just the way things go in rural areas. I mean you could call it borderline selfish but, really, what motivation do these folks have to rock the boat when they're living a damn good life out in the country?

Of course, there are a lot of people who want nothing to do with this sort of lifestyle or lack of progress/investment. They leave instead of fight, it's just easier.

Very true and a point that is not discussed enough. I got mine, I'm doing OK, frick the rest of y'all.

Not just the attitude of landowners who have acreage, but all over the state. I lived all over the country (and overseas) since gradating law school in 1991 and I listen to people with 450K houses bitch over their property taxes which comparatively are not that high. They then bitch about the public schools and roads but won't pony up to fix it because, state officials are "goddamned crooks" Of course we keep voting for the same crooks, but it's never "my guy", it's always the other guy.

Face it and I know I will get excoriated, but we want things here, it's just we don't want to pay.

I will grant though that the way things are funded in this state gives the bureaucrats in BR waaaaaaay too much power and oversight, but we are too damned scared to change the state constitution or even some laws because of muh crooks

NIMBY's seem to flourish here. Just ask the Pittman Bros in Mandeville about their Port Marigny development wherein they redrew it to the specs of the local homeowners and it was still voted down.

Overall it's a lot of things but in terms of the tax credits, though, there ought to be some sort of sunset provision because in the end, the locals end up covering the shortfalls

you spew this shite without even considering the amount we already pay or the size of state government that sucks up so much of the tax money. don't want to pay? frick, I guess not. I'd rather have some money to pay for my own shite.

We already pay higher taxes than a lot of other states that get a lot more in return for their money. We used to be near the bottom but after JBE's increases we are middle of the pack.

Guys like you play right into the "muh crooks" hands. You'll bitch about higher sales taxes....but not really because in your mind it's better than having to pay a property tax on your first 75K......the crooks are easy to blame, huh?

It is better. Property taxes are the worst kind of taxation. It means that you never really own your property. At least everyone gets to share in the fun with a sales tax.

I'd be interested to see if most homeowners overall burden is higher with property tax or sales tax. 2.5% of so of 250k is $6,250 a year. For 10% sales tax you'd have to spend 62k on goods and services.

I don't know the answer, just interesting to see

I bitch about taxes because I feel over-taxed. I feel ripped off cause I have a state government that does very little (positive) with the money they already get. (But they sure can tell me how badly they need more of MY money).
Guys like you play right into the "we just don't want to pay for it" hands. You (nor anyone) else can provide a rationale for the size of state government. You sure cant explain where the money goes. All you can do is say "we don't want to pay for it". But you never seem to consider what we already spend. Its just the standard "muh gas tax will fix the roads" BS.
