Bc it probably costs about $100 per swim if you really knew how often you’d use it, how much you’d spend keeping it up, and how much it costs to fill it in with dirt

The last year I had my pool, I went in it once.

The Cost of Electricity, Chemicals, Additional Insurance, and the attention I had to exert, I’d have been thrilled to give $100 for that swim.

If you want it, do it. We love our pool. The stories about self maintenance are exaggerated. I spend about one hour per week doing “maintenance”. The worst part is scooping out leaves in the fall. The chemicals do cost money, but if you can front 75K to build the thing then you should be just fine.

Amen. Our kids are grown and gone but I swim every day. I won't live in this hell hole without one.

Best moments of the pool:

1. Watching my kid, nieces, nephew have a blast (10x a year)

2. Skinny dipping

ecause after the first couple of years you’ll get tired of it and hardly ever want to get in after that. Then you’re stuck with years of upkeep.

And that’s why you spend $5k and get a semi in ground pool with a wood deck and trash it up, and when you’re tired of it, you take it out and fill it in.

Get an above ground pool and put a nice deck around it. I didn't want one all that much whereas my wife wanted an inground pool. The above ground pool was the compromise. I spent $40k less and I don't have a loan to worry about paying off.

I have a small chlorine pool/spa. Routine Maintenance is easy. Doesn’t take much time. I’m fortunate to not have tall trees nearby.

Seems much more reasonable than dropping 75K on a pool.

If you end up not using the country club much either, you’ll probably realize it well short of 75k.

I have a pool. It was great for a few years. I still enjoy going outside, drinking, and sitting in it. But I purposely bought the house with one. frick spending that kind of money on a pool.

It really just depends on your personal family situation. We built one at our previous home and it was nice and I liked it but the excitement for the kids and grandsons seemed to wear off quickly, it was hardly used by August of its second year.
I’d say if you have $75,000 cash for one then money may not be a concern for you but when we sold, we found out what many on here have said, 3 realtors point blank told us we wouldn’t get anything for it, we said we’ll try on our own and ended up getting about 1/3 of what we had in it but only because a neighbors mom desperately wanted our house so she could live next to her grandchildren
Also depends on how long you plan to live where you are, we had to transfer unexpectedly and ours ended up running about $20,000 a year for the time we had it, in hindsight there’s a lot of other nice stuff we could have done with that money.
If you decide to build, be sure to plan in repairs to yard, repairs to lawn sprinkler pipes that will be broken when dug up, expenses for sod or whatever you’re putting around the decking when it’s finished and of course fencing and possible home owners insurance increases,

You should build a pool. Before the Chinese virus I'd say frick a pool. Nothing but a money pit, but these days you never know when the world will shut down and at least you'll be happier stuck at home.

This is a good point. When you have a pool, people assume your house is always the place to be during the summer. Good times for sure but it can get annoying when you’re just looking to relax.

Today is July 26th. The pool is clear and clean. I haven't been in it since probably August of last year.

I hope this answers your question.
