Props to that flight attendant for jumping into the fray--skirt and all--to defend the passenger against a dude three times her size.

A fire extinguisher to the head would have taken some of the wind out of his sails.

Hijacking a plane will be damn near impossible now. No one is playing anymore when someone gets unruly.

He’s lucky an air marshal wasn’t onboard and shot him immediately.

ive always wondered about this, it seems like firing a gun on an airplane is a bad idea. couldnt it go through the wall and cause problems? would the the hole be too small to depressurize? Couldnt it hit something and mess up the electrical system?

Well I looked it up, the hole would probably be too small

Firing their weapon is considered “last resort.” Things would have to be pretty far advanced for that to occur.

Also, I think the MythBusters proved a single bullet hole would not cause explosive decompression. But of course, not all scenarios were accounted for.

It's more than just Mythbusters. There is a significant amount of research on it.

Frangible ammunition was developed to cut down on richochets at shooting galleries. That technology was revived, I believe in the 1970s, specifically for Air Marshal use (and, obviously, related issues where richochet or overpenetration were concerns). Now, recall that hollow point defense ammo had not been advanced to the level it is now. Air Marshals carried the Glaser Safety Slug in the 1970s and 1980s, typically in .44 Special revolvers.

As they moved to Sig pistols in the 1990s (and most recently Glock 19s) , they began carrying standard self-defense JHP ammunition.
