quote:I was a freshman the year after it was completed in early 90s. We used the shite outta that place. Who remembers the stickers they put on your ID to verify you were a student each semester? Before scanner technology was affordable at each entrance, you'd have to bring fee bill into the office at beginning of each semester and they'd Eyeball it as well pull your ID up on computer. Then the worker would put a sticker on your ID that was good for the semester.
Urec definitely gets used. I think it was a good investment
Csb I worked out early in mornings often at the same time as Jenny Hale one semester. She said 'hey' to me sometimes aka We were dating.

This is LSU competing for that TOPS money.

The new student rec center is badass. They now have a huge power lifting room, large tires, and prowler sleds. The running track goes up to the third floor too.

That's cool af. Now if they let you bring an ice chest

Yeah, it's so much nicer than when I was a student in the late '90s. Pretty cool that they let you in for only $10/day if you graduated from LSU.
The 'weight room' is more than just a little space like it used to be. Now, there are many different sections with different types of equipment and space.

I recall when I moved back to BR in 2001 I called and it was about $75/month for Alumni family plan.
What's the cost now if you want a contract/plan? I'm guessing twice that as it seems to be on par with nice gyms like Franco's in Mandeville(which is ~$160/month for family).

I worked all four years at the Rec Center while I was a student. I was on the committee who began these plans in the early 2000s. I remember looking at other rec centers across the SEC and country. Oklahoma State's was the inspiration for the pool. It's crazy to see this finally got done 15+ years later. I wonder if they would let me go tour it next time I am in Baton Rouge.

What a waste of money.
Money provided by the students/parents of students due to a vote which the students passed?

That was long needed. LSU had easily the worst UREC facility out of any school in the SEC

So now we send kids to school to pretend they are on vacation at Atlantis instead of actually going to class and learning?
I get your sentiment, especially in light of the budget issues and priorities of the day, but this was considered one of the most lavish pools in the nation when built, and probably topped anything you'd find at most high end resorts of the era:
Sad nothing seemingly can be done with it today.

I wish we had this in the 90's

I remember. It was nice for the early 90's.

Yep it was. People either don't remember or didn't use it. We had free access to pre-PT students(an actual PT ran the facility) and a full rehab room. Us Rugby players were very fortunate to have that as a club sport. They'd put you on a PT program for free right there with a script from an infirmiry Dr(could set it up in a day and cost $7 to see Dr).
Hell One actually correctly diagnosed my torn PCL when the MD ortho at Oschner was sure it was an MCL till the MRI. Dodged a surgery there.
Anyhoots. Was ahead of its time in 92 but was surpassed by 98 by schools like A&M and many others building the next generation of Rec Sports Facilities.
