I used to drive that road often before the bridges were closed. There was a marker at an incorrect location for many years and people who knew better ignored it. Someone finally put up a marker at the correct site which annoyed some of the people at the marina because of the gawkers cluttering up their approach.

My grandfather was an NOPD on the scene that night. He said it was one of the roughest things he had seen in his 38 years on the force. He said having the kids there made it 10X worse. Her head was almost taken off. You really could not tell it was her.

I saw the insurance pictures a few days after the crash, they were taken before the bodies were removed. She was not decapitated, but she did hit the windshield pretty hard. I worked in an insurance company for a summer job, the women in the office were flocking to the file room to see the pics, since I worked in the file room, I was custodian of the pics. Not that I would use my access to my advantage.
