Why?

It's always the French judge.

Its always always always the French or Russian judge in this useless judged sport.
Every Winter Olympics going back 50 years...its mind-numbing the Olympics can't solve this problem, because maybe its not really a sport but niche ice capade entertainment that some Countries take way too seriously.

Sadly, they aren't even going to review this. I'd say this is an even bigger scandal than the one from the 2002 Olympics when the French and Russian figure skating judges worked together to screw the Canadian pairs team. At least the Canadians got duplicate gold medals. Chock and Bates won't, because the US Olympic team has decided not to file a protest.

This crap use to go all the time in women's gymnastics in the Olympics too. That and the 16 year old Chinese girls that were actually 12.

Should be no events that require judges to give points.
All sport should be win or lose.
Boxing is the same BS.

Again, the French had 4 of the top 6 total scores, so 3 of the other 5 even excluding this French judge. 2 other judges had the French at least 3-4 points ahead
Judges 3 and 9 had massive advantages for the French duo as well. Another judge had them exactly even.
This doesn't seem like that big of a conspiracy

Didn’t five of the nine judges rank Chock and Bates first? If so, they should’ve won the gold. Again, the issue isn’t just that the French judge overscored the French duo, she severely underscored the Americans, and the French made two very obvious mistakes. The other judges apparently noticed the mistakes, why didn’t the French judge?

So did 2 other judges, having the French far ahead of the Americans.

The French judge was the only one who had the French pair far ahead of the Americans. All of the other judges' scores were pretty comparable. The French judge's scores were an outlier, which in most mathematical formulas are thrown out. Again, the French made mistakes but their scores were not downgraded for them. They received a season's beat score. That should be impossible if there were mistakes. If you want to defend the French judge or you hate the Americans, that's your prerogative, but to not acknowledge the irregularity in the scores is ridiculous.
As I said, I'm more upset that the US has chosen not to at least send in a letter of inquiry. I feel that it's their duty to look out for their athletes. I don't hate the French pair. In fact, I was a huge fan of Guillaume Cizeron and Gabby Pakadakis. They were phenomenal and deserved the gold they won in 2022. Cizeron and Beaudry have been humble in victory and Chock and Bates have been gracious in defeat. Apparently the two teams train together and are friends, so it's nothing personal. It's about accountability in a sport whose judging practices have been under scrutiny for decades.

Judge 9 and Judge 3 have the French far ahead. Judge 6 also has them ahead. Judge 4 has it split. Again of the total top scores on the day, Judge 9 gave the French the highest score, then Judge 5 for the Americans (the US judge), then judge 1 for the French (the French Judge), then Judge 8 and judge 3 were about even for one team each.
The US judge has a pretty large disparity as well, just not as massive as the French judge. Again, I get the issue, but I see other judges scoring the french just as high (or higher)

It’s a moot point I guess. I just don’t understand how a team that made two obvious mistakes gets awarded a season high score while a team that was near perfect had some of their elements downgraded. It just doesn’t add up. Again, nothing will be done because the US Olympic officials are refusing to even question the results.

That's fair. I don't know enough about ice dancing. If it's like diving the Chinese always do way harder routines/dives so even if they aren't perfect they get scored higher as a baseline.

I don’t think that the French team’s routine necessarily had a higher degree of difficulty, considering that Chock and Bates won the World Championship last year with the same routine. That said, I’m not an ISU official and don’t claim to be an expert. It will be interesting to compare the judging at the Worlds next month against what we saw at the Olympics.

They should throw the low score out to fight bias in these "judgement" competitions.

Winter Olympics have far too many of these happen in objectively judged events.
