I have wanted to do this for a long time.
I cant text or call where I hunt, no service. I still play the games and stuff. I just downloaded a bunch of calls for the phone to use too. I've got ducks, deer, geese, and elk (idk why I got elk, but the dog goes ape shite for the buggle)

I have a smart phone, but no data plan. Data is for chumps.

where do you get these?

I try to get to the stand at least 20 minutes before I can see anything (full moons excepted). I'll stay until 10 unless I haven't seen anything then I may get down 15 minutes early and do a little scouting on the way back.

in the woods. I haven't used them yet and probably wont, just use them during Glee to piss my wife off.

She gets mad when I tell her it's stupid. Then she complains about the hunint shows I watch. I'm all like "Look woman, this actually pertains to my life. What are the odds you're actually gonna go back to your hillbilly arse highschool and join some singing group?"

This. Some mornings if we're all in certain stands we can get a few text messages out, helps if somebody needs help tracking. But no calls and definitely no data service. I don't really play the games on it either anymore, if I do it's only for a little while. I don't get as antsy as I used to.

I was fixing to say, i know you use the phone, b/c you've sent me pics of spikes right under your stand.
To the OP, I generally will stay until at least 9:30. If i get really bored, I sometimes whip up a batch of Still Steamin' Buck Semen, my version, and if there still isn't anything moving, I will get down and scout a bit. Got to be at the BBQ place by noon before they run of out half chickens, so I start walking out by 10:30.
Just got an iPhone, so you can bet i will be playing with that thing with nothing is going on. I hope ATT's service in Feriday is better than at my house.

When there aren't many people on our lease and nobody in my area I'll do this as well. I've jumped up quite a few does this way.

just walkin around? on the roads or in the woods? id make too much noise walking through the woods. usually when i get out of the stand ill walk down the trail real quietly hoping to sneak up on something

Why pay $8-10 when you can make it for free?
I hunt public, so few if any people are in my area to disturb when i scout at 9:30-10am.

Never on the trail, usually I get off my stand and walk up a valley or out of a valley (depending on where I'm hunting) and the most I jumped was walking across a bunch of fingers and valleys and into some pines. Like 5 does in a 45 minute period of walking. Never got a shot yet though, I never see them until they take off.

Usually in the climber/lock-on settled in @ an hour BEFORE first light (30 min. prior to sunrise)
I have had many...MANY mature bucks pass within 10 yards of the stand in the predawn light.
No.. not enough light to shoot them, but you learn many key things...where they are coming from, where they're headed, etc.
Frustrating to watch a 130 plus walk directly under your lock-on and draw only to not see a single pin visible, but thats the chance you take.Another 5 minutes and he would have been on the wall. You can also use your flashlight to momentarily hit them (from above) to get a quick glimpse to judge them. I have never had one react negatively to it, as long as you don't leave it on more than a sec or two. they must just think it's lightning... as long as they don't scent you that is.

Also, to the OP, usually stay until @ 11:30.During the rut I have had many a doe come out of their bedding area being trailed by Big Daddy @ the 11:00 time frame, especially if it's been dry and there is water just outside the bedding area.
Of course 8:00 a.m has been my magic hour for morning hunts in the past.

I never get down before 930 but will stay till 11 most days. Especially during the rut or if some weather system is moving through. Gotta pace yourself on your phn activity. I never let my battery get below half before 830

I rarely get out before 10:00
