Picked up this lefty Ruger on a discount at Bass Pro. Got it for my DIL to shoot when she’s at camp. I’ve killed a doe and a hog with it this season. Seems plenty accurate. Handy in this 4x4 box.

Area 6
48° slight NW wind and clear
.308

Overlooking a food plot. Dad is in the woods over a small plot. Rut is happening. Moon is big and out right now. Hoping it gets these deer moving. Good luck!

Aside from slipping out the stand at 9:45, steak and eggs breakfast, slipping back in at 10:45, I’ve been here all day. Seen exactly nothing but starling, doves and cardinals.

Feels like I wasted an entire day.

Sounded like a battle was taking place at 2:45 near me. Almost texted to see if they were shooting hogs or terrorists.

Centreville, MS
Small turnip patch on edge of the Buffalo River
7-30 Waters T/C Contender

2 doe have been feeding for 15 minutes, hopefully one of them is hot and draws in a buck

Edit: a fork horn buck came in, but he was only interested in eating greens

257 I have a Ruger M77 .243. I got it as a kid. Traded a black lab puppy from our dog for it. My dad left the decision up to me. It’s so sweet. I’ve contemplated taking the scope off and using it open sighted.

Saw two yearlings and a young 8 pt at around 430. At 5 a doe came running through then stopped and turned around watching behind her. I held off on shooting thinking a buck would follow. Nope, not my day. Spotted a tree covered in oyster mushrooms though, will grab them in the morning.

About to eat venison chili colorado, homemade refried beans, and Mexican rice for dinner.

Went to the back of the property this evening, put down the bow and brought the aught 6, ladder on plot, with 3 old logging roads, no cell service.

Decent 5pt that looked like a shooter on camera didn’t do it for me in person, I might have put an arrow in him this morning if he would have come in range though.

Heading back, try and give em hell another day

I missed a buck quatering away at 5:19 today not a trophy but still sickening for a public land hunt on a refuge with a 1/22 per hunter kill ratio.. second deer I missed in over 30 years of hunting.. so many people say calls don’t work in Louisiana that’s the second buck I called in this year

Thanks man I will definitely keep shooting.. I always set my confidence level of taking a buck once I climb up in the tree..my confidence level at this spot was moderate at 65%. That’s pretty good

Sitting here at the camp, everyone left all by myself. Sitting here feeling blessed even though it’s the first year I have not killed a mature buck.
12 yr old ol boy would have never even thought I would have hunted as much as I have and had all of the opportunities I have had.
Life is good and never forget how precious life and each day is.

Only missing two bucks in thirty years must be some kind of record.

Saw eight big does and couldn't get a shot on any of them. Only downside to hunting thick woods with a bow.
