300 Blackout upper w/ a 12" barrel. I already have a SilencerCo Harvester 300 suppressor. Undecided on brand of barrel. Twist will be 1:7 or 1:8.
TOTH - if you are mainly planning on shooting subs, you can go all the way down to a 1:5 twist if you can find one. There are only a few companies that make a 1:5 though.

Not sure what I think about a 12.5” barrel. Not opposed. Really want a 300blk. Just can’t find any ammo to feed her with.

I ended up ordering the components for my AR 15 last night. I bought everything from PSA. They had pretty good sale prices, free shipping and everything was in stock. Given the sale prices for the complete units, I wouldn't have saved much, if any, buying individual components. Plus the individual components might not have been in stock. I really wanted a 12" barrel, but there aren't many barrels made between 10.5" and 16".
Upper: PSA 10.5" pistol length 300AAC barrel w/ 9"M-L0k w/ BCG
Lower: PSA Complete w/ Magpul grip and SB Tactical SBA3 brace
Brass: Prvi Partizan 300 AAC
Bullets: Hornady 110 gr V-Max, Nosler 125 gr Ballistic Tip and Barnes Tipped TAC-TX. Once available, I'll probably try some 220 gr Sierra
Powder: IMR 4227, Shooter's World Blackout and Hodgdon CFE-BLK.
Dies: Hornady 300 Whisper I bought nearly 20 years ago for a 12" Contender barrel.
Scope: ATN X Sight 4K Pro 3-14X
I'll let you know how it works out.
ETA: I'll prob add a custom trigger later.
Forgot to mention I'll be using a SilencerCo Harvester 300 suppressor.

There are a couple of charts out there that show the velocities of 223/556 out of different length barrels. I think 11.5 is the best length befitting diminishing returns for shorter lengths.
Between 10-11” is the shortest before velocity falls below 2500fps

I wish I had went 11.5, got a 7.5 that looks cool and not good for much else than a flamethrower

If it doesn’t have a suppressor it’s good for annoying the hell out of other people if you’re at a range. I’m always happy that others are out shooting and to each his own, but if you’re under a tin roof those things suck to be near.

I wear double ear pro when I shoot it, and it’s on my property, wouldn’t take that loud little bastard to a range.

With recent uptick in crime in EBR area, I’ve decided to piece together an AR pistol
You going to war or something? 10.5” 556 will kick your arse
Kick your arse...? It's loud I suppose, and there's noticeable muzzle flash with cheap russian steel (Vympel); but beyond that it's a baby to shoot. I have the blade brace, and for the record I tested shooting by holding with 2 hands, with nothing touching my body. Zero recoil, I'd say a 10 yr old (with good hearing protection) could handle it with no issue at all. I honestly could pull the brace off and just leave a bare buffer tube, it wouldn't bother me at all.
I picked up some surplus Cetme L 10 rd mags and put some new followers in them, it makes the package incredibly small and tight.

Is it louder than a 9mm handgun?
Posted on 12/26/21 at 11:23 am to RetiredSaintsLsuFan
No comparison, 9mm isn’t running 2500 fps, loudest thing I own
Posted on 12/26/21 at 11:25 am to Afish85
7.5 inches isn’t enough to burn all the powder so you get a pretty good fireball
Posted on 12/26/21 at 2:03 pm to RetiredSaintsLsuFan
That one won’t be any louder than a normal 9mm pistol, I have a ruger pc carbine it’s heavy but shoots sweet

Instead of a folding stock, take a look at the Deadfoot Arms SCW stocks. I have two on AR pistols, and they are sure to put a smile on your face.

I have an frt and it's fun to shoot but I wouldnt want to use it in an oh shite situation.

What are the OB's thoughts on this CMC trigger on sale at PSA?

The reason I asked is I am looking at an AR style 9mm pistol.
A short-barrel AR in 5.56 isn't loud due to anything inherent to the design, it's loud because the round was originally designed for a 20" barrel. At 10" you have a lot of unburned powder and pressure coming out of the barrel, so in addition to being loud it feels like you're being slapped in the face. None of that will be an issue shooting a 9mm AR.

Would this type of pistol be the type that I may need to take it fishing?
