Louisiana Boat Registration

Previously always got my renewal notices in the mail. My buddy noticed my 2026 sticker at camp and asked if I'd checked the expiration date. Pulled my registration card out and only had a couple days left before it expired. He got checked recently and ticketed. Green jeans told him they no longer were mailing out reminders. SIAP, just trying to keep you baws legal.

Last year, I updated my registration and never received the new paperwork or stickers.
This year, I submitted an application for replacement stickers and still have not heard or received anything.

It's a huge inconvenience, but I will go to their office in BR and update my boat registration in person. It beats having to explain to the LDWF agent it's their fault for me not having received my renewed documents.

I printed the confirmation email. Hopefully that will suffice if I get checked before my new sticker comes in.

Recently went thru this. They are ridiculously behind. Online and over the phone they told me it was ok to send in and keep a copy of the renewal with me in boat.

Not completely related to this- but how is it even possible in that LA doesn't have satellite offices where you can do this, or register a new boat, etc?
I live in TX now, but here every county has an office you can go to for all of that stuff.

Great question.
The Tags & Titles place close to my job sends a runner to WL&F every day for this reason.

I actually just received my updated registration in the mail.

ok so they "upgraded" to a new system around October and some lucky renewals have been processed but there is no timeline on when (or if) stickers ill be sent out. You have to call LDWF and request a duplicate. At this time they send you an email asking for a picture of your drivers license so they can mail the renewal.

I know they are terrible at updating and basically everything, but it still says on their website that they will mail reminders out for renewals. Mine needs to be renewed by July. I think I usually get it in May sometime.

Don’t let expire for more than 60 days, if so can’t do it online.

Both of mine are expired and I received no invoice or reminder for neither.

As per the LDWF website.
LDWF boat registration
So, after reading this closer. WTH do they require you register 60 days prior to the expiration date and then threaten to cancel the registration.

Boat registrations are valid for three years from the date they're issued. The expiration date is printed on your registration certificate. You must renew your boat registration within 60 days of the expiration date; you'll receive a renewal notice in the mail. If you don't renew in time, your boat registration will be canceled. You can renew your boat registration in person at LDWF Headquarters in Baton Rouge, by mail, or at the LDWF licensing and boat registration site.

I went online last week to try to renew it because I knew it was coming and it wouldn’t let me do it. Said the boat wasn’t registered to my profile or something. This is the third time I’ve renewed it online but never had any trouble before.

They're apparently taking a break at the moment.

Thanks for starting this. Went last evening and got my boat numbers and looked this morning on WLF website and mine expires on the 27th of this month, went ahead and renewed then and printed the receipt in case I don't get a new sticker in the mail.
