That’s what the wife uses. The Dramamine seems to make everyone sleepy.

Mine uses the Dramamine natural ginger pills coupled with the wrist bands. Doesn’t get sleepy at all and works great for her.

Stay on deck, do not go into the cabin if the boat has a cabin

Went speck fishing a couple weeks ago and got in some nice swells. I sat in the bottom of the boat for 10 minutes or so rigging some stuff. When I got up I was sick as a dog. I guess just focused on the tackle and feeling the motion. Lasted about an hour.

If you do get sick, focus on something fixed in the water like another boat or a platform.

That and hydrate. Drink some pedialyte the night before with your damamine

I can tell you what NOT to do. Don't go on an empty stomach and then when you feel it coming on you think drinking a V8 juice will calm it down.

Take dramamine the night before, and the morning of. I think drinking helps to be honest, just drink water as well.

I was prone to sea sickness and car sickness as a child. I don't experience it now, because I do this. Don't wait until the morning of, you might puke it up before it can kick in. Take one the night before, AND the morning of. The night before will also get you in bed earlier for the early start to the day.

Mix some 8oz cocktail cans of ginger ale into the cooler with the waters and beers. Most charters typically have some ginger ales in the cooler already, but bring your own. What you don't use, leave behind for future guests if they are needed.

if you do get sick…

you have to change your equilibrium or it will never pass. Sit in a deck chair and have someone dump a bucket of cold (ice cold is best) water on your head

gonna have to try that trick!

if you suffer from migraines (i did) you know this remedy well...you have to alter your stimuli. when i get a bad one going i have to stand under a hot shower to the face...after a while the sensation of the hot water breaks the feedback loop you are in.

seasickness is not caused by an issue in your gut, its an issue in your inner ear

I've been fishing offshore for 40+ years and the only recommendation I would offer is a Scopolamine Transdermal patch. It works every time.

My experience is Dramamine has worse side effects.

I've used dramamine with success before.

But one thing that causes it, is looking down when the sea is rolling. You likely won't get sick on the ride out. Just when you stop.

If you can do your best to keep your eyes on the horizon, you will be fine.

And if you do get sick, you can get in the water and it will help.

What is a sure fire way to avoid puking?

You have this all wrong, don’t fight it, you need to puke as soon as possible and get past it.

Fighting the puke just makes things worse.

the one / only time I got seasick we hit a small squall and I was fine as long as I stayed topside but made the mistake of going below deck and the closeness of the pitching walls got to me really quickly. I hauled my butt back topside and improved considerably

ETA: good call on the ginger, I've not been back since I discovered these but there's a high ginger content candy called Gin Gins LINK that I use from time to time for general nausea

Dramamine works pretty well for a lot of people. The key is to take it well before you get on the boat. Nothing will bring you back once you get seasick.

If you have fished inshore and don't get seasick you probably won't get seasick anyway. You might be worried about nothing really. If you want to be safe, take something before you go.

If you start to feel queasy look out to the horizon. It will calm your stomach.

I think I’m more conflicted now than before.

I’ll try to Dramamine. Thank you all for the responses.

Some friends swear by dramamine pill.

Others like the patch (scopalamine).

I'd try the pill before the patch because the patch can mess you up!

Anyone ever try Zofran after they started feeling bad? I have some left over from a few surgeries and it takes away nausea pretty good...if anyone has had any luck, let me know...I've been dying to go offshore and I have had a few invites

Dramamine As needed. Had a navy man that said to look to the horizon. It’s the only thing that’s not moving.

I usually have my sea legs by the time we get to the first spot
