I think I would have sat on this for 6 months. What the hell were they thinking?

quote:

The United State Secret Services (USSS) has issued a solicitation for a Precision Bolt Action Rifle System consisting of a multi-caliber rifle, for use in all environmental conditions. What’s more, the weapons system must be offered in a Right and Left-hand configuration. Additionally, It has to be an off-the-shelf rifle, commercially available and in serial production.

The required calibers are 300 Winchester magnum, 300 Norma Magnum, 300 Precision Rifle Cartridge, and .308 Winchester. The rifle must have a single stage trigger and the metal parts must have a subdued, rust/corrosion resistant finish.

The rifle must be accurate within 1 MOA. It can weigh no heavier than 16 pounds, 0 ounces without accessories (300 Winchester Magnum configuration).

Guessing that weight makes it hard to climb onto sloped roofs.

Bunch of other details at the LINK if you are interested.

I put this on OT because they are going to have some funny comments about the timing. Admins throw it on OB because the word "rifle" is used and now its going to become a technical discussion of the aspects of the rifle they are selecting.

Admins too busy with this one. It was on the right board to start with.

This one is over before it began.

Barrett MRad.

I know I love mine so far. Bought it in 300 PRC and now I'm waiting on a 6.5 Creed CEK .... but the possibilities are almost endless.

Doesnt have a left hand version.

The AI AXSR might fit the bill.

Seems like an accuracy international 300wm with a nightforce atacr is a “no brainer” !!!

From the Barrett site under "features." Last paragraph.

quote:

With tool-less length of pull and cheek piece height adjustment, the MRAD is easily configured to fit shooters of all shapes and sizes. The use of ambidextrous paddle-style magazine release, left/right swappable thumb safety and AR15/M16 pistol grips makes the MRAD perfect for both right and left handed shooters. From competition to combat, the Barrett MRAD does it all.

Plus I just cannot imagine another platform being as versatile with all the CEKs available.

I suspect SIG will offer up an entry given their MCX Virtus platform. I've got two of those, one configured in 9" 300 blk and one configured in 11.5" 5.56 .... and I've got a 16" (I think it is) CEK ... but CEKs are the way of the future.

If SIG offered up a long stroke, or even a short stroke, lower that could accommodate 6.5 - 338 CEKs ... they could probably sell a few.

Translation, we want a Barrett MRAD.

Why wouldn’t they buy a 6.5 Tikka?

Is that heavy Barrett piece of shite any more accurate than a baw’s consistently <1MOA 300 WM??

They current use custom REM 700 actions on ACIS chassis with S&B PMII 5-25-56 in 300WM

Not sure changing is going to gain much of anything. The 700’s are blueprinted and timed.

Who is truing and blueprinting the actions ? As far as I know, Rem Arms does not true or blueprint 700 actions at the factory. I've seen a few of the newer production actions (2023 vintage), and the tolerances & QC have improved from the original ownership, but the threads were not 100% trued and perfect. Custom rifle builders offer this as an option which usually costs around $250 +/- depending on the actual services performed.

? I don't think their rifles had anything to do with the failure.

Just like every agency it’s a mixed bag on what’s being fielded.

Some teams are using the NF ATACR with a MARS like the guys in this now iconic photo

Is Sig still making the Virtus? I thought they had moved to the lighter spear? Or are you saying the Virtus is the same action that is in the new spear?

Actually going to pick up a MCX Spear LT this afternoon if I can get away

Timing is probably related to awarding the contract before the 30 Sept end of FY.
