gore tex is just a membrane, and it's also not something you come in contact with, as the membrane itself is between the outer and inner layers.

it would be a DAMN shame if goretex is pulled. it is a truly effective product. even when it has had years of use and the high traffic zones of your jacket/boot/etc gets worn out, and allows water in, the whole membrane still works to drive moisture from inside, out.

so, for example boots... if you wear them while wet, it will still work to dry your feet much faster.

KUIU is better stuff anyway

I’ve been hunting in KUIU Axis Hybrid since 2018 and have no plans to change. Still using the very first stuff I bought that year and it has held up incredibly well, even in the river bottom bullshite I hunt.

Wool is awesome, but it’s not very waterproof

Same here. Thankfully, I get the 40% discount. At full price, I have somewhere around $12k invested

Damn, ~$7K invested in clothing? Do all your buddies just borrow your gear?

With River’s West, you can sit down in water which you cannot in Sitka or mainly every thing else.

I have gore tex gloves and boots I can literally stand in water hunting and my feet stay dry. Gloves I can grab fish or decoys in and out and my hands stay dry.

I don’t know anything about that product but goretex is not a fan boy product it just works, if they had a competitor that worked it would be popular.

Wool is way too heavy

It’s not the lightest material but it breathes in the summer. You can wear it year round. I don’t. But you could.

And no, it’s not waterproof at all. lol. Wear a rain coat on top I guess.

We have some nice wool blankets at the camp and they are unbeatable in the cold.

True, but it still keeps you pretty warm when wet.

I'm signed up as a Sitka Pro (40% discount) and that's the reason I buy Sitka. I just casually noticed that in the last year or two it seems like the innovation came to a crawl. Meanwhile KUIU is knocking it out of the park lately.

Kuiu's only knock is they're missing a goretex equivalent, their cold weather gear is elite but are behind in the rain gear

Can you imagine how many garments they would sell if Sitka was offered in Bottomlamd?

Agree 100%.

I like my Sitka clothes but your paying for all these over engineered zippers and pockets. I actually like my code of silence items better and it’s 1/3 the price. I’m eyeing some sleeping Indian wool but can’t justify spending that kind of $.

Yep! I have to think they’re looking at that. They’ve done some stuff with Mystery Ranch and hinting at Marsupial. Clothing licenser quality is still lacking bigly.

Yep, and that’s why I broke down and bought Sitka. They were the only one offering Goretex that I could find locally. Not fond of their camo patterns, but the stuff keeps you dry.

I’ve worn the Yukon rain gear on Kodiak for three hunts, where it’s cold, wet and miserable. Best rain gear amongst hunting companies. There’s a reason most Alaskan guides wear Kuiu over Sitka.
