Welp, just dropped another $2800. I can't stand their marketing or their shitty website, but the pewscience numbers are just unbelievable.

CAT MOB
CAT SC/B1
CAT SR/A2

Think I'm going to do a slick SP5K build to use as my MOB host.

That puts me at

(2) 30cal
(1) 45
(2) 9mm
(3) Rimfire

Surely I dont need any more cans now, right?

No recommendation on one for the 9mm, that is also on my list for this year. Saving my monopoly money this year for a 8.6 Blackout build.

I’d like a dedicated 9mm can for my Walther PDP and Shadow systems. Any recommendations for a smaller can?

CAT Street Crack B1 (the modular one, not the short. So you have the option of short and long). It’s awesome.

Check out the new Rugged RU3 if you got a hub version, really nice compact Bixler 3-lug. If you’d rather the spring loaded variety, the Resilient one is highly regarded. There are clearance issues I believe with 3-lugs from some manufacturers.

I’ll pick up a CAT can or two over the next year or so. Most of my stuff will be for dedicated guns. I may have a few to switch to different platforms so I don’t end up buying one for every gun and every future gun.

I’ve got the following now:

.22 cal Dead Air Mask
.30 cal Hyperion K longer bolt guns an 6.8 SPC AR
.46 cal dead air primal use on PCC’s
.30 cal B&T .762 TI use on my longer bolt guns

Want:
PTR Vent 1 for short bolt guns
Dedicated .223 can for my AR’s
Dedicated 9mm for pistols

I’ve got about 15 saved on my phone. Still need to get an Iconel for heavy use. Probably one in .223 and .308.

How much should I take from the pew science ratings? Been shopping for the 5.56, and they are all rated crappy in that caliber so it's tough. Otter Creek Labs Polonium (and K, not sure the difference) popped up as back in stock, but are rated like crap for noise reduction. But I also read great reviews on those. Online research can take you in circles.

K is a shorter can and will not have as good of sound suppression as the longer version. Pew Science is legit but you have to decide what you’re going for.

Sound suppression
Length
Weight
Full auto

You can find a good all around can but I have yet to find the quietest, shortest, lightest, can. You’re always going to have to compromise something.

I’ve seen some cans that have extensions. I’m curious why those aren’t more popular? Short one for maneuverability and add the extension for sound?

I just took the extension off my Banish 30 that's on my 300bo pistol. After trying both, I prefer the smaller footprint. I can hear a minor improvement with sound suppression in the longer config without ears. Nothing really to notice with ears.

.556 is about the toughest I've seen to try and even half arse quiet down. I have a Polonium on mine and it's way louder than I thought it would be. Not sure any can will get it down much, I'm in the market for one that does. Just got a Gunwerks 8eight TI that I'm going to try on mine, got it for my 6.5 but it has adapters to try on 556 as well.

Stealth additive works Tisha is one of the quietest but it looks terrible. It’s short and fat.

Alen engineering AEM5 or otter creek OCM5. You can use an otter creek over the barrel mount if your rifle doesnt have an SPR profile.

The AEM5 is a near 50 year old design but still considered by many to be the best sounding 5.56 suppressor.

Both are high backpressure jobs so you'll probably need an H2 buffer to get the port pop down. Its amazing how much difference slowing the bolt down makes. If you havent tried that yet, you probably should. Odds are a lot of the poor performance youre having is from the rifle being over gassed and port pop.

My Cat White Bread TI is pretty incredible. The crack is still loud, there is nothing you can do for that but the boom is completely gone.

It's a flow through design so you don't get back pressure and no gases in your face. Never knew how nice that was until shooting a silencer with low back pressure. Something else you can do to an AR is using a captured buffer spring. The spring makes more noise than you realize.

My Cat is quiet enough that I've had people stop me on the range to ask about it.

And being TI, it is not designed to mag dump. The inconel WB or Alley cat would be a better can for high volume shooting.

ETA: another thing you can do instead of adding a heavier buffer is to put an adjustable gas block on it. You can dial that in perfectly ,such easier than figuring which weight works best. Cost more thought.

just for y'alls awareness, r/NFA has a running thread for 2026 for everyone to post their approval times/dates. they're tracking it in a pretty cool fashion.

https://www.reddit.com/r/NFA/comments/1q3bnqs/2026_1st_quarter_approval_megathread/

https://thinlineweapons.com/NFA/index.html

you can sort the dashboard by state. it's not 100% accurate, but it does have a lot of data that might be valuable to some of you.
