I never understood why people got upset with “happpy holidays”

you aren’t celebrating New Years in a week? Do I need to hunt you down in between?

Just remember this: Jews have been saying "Happy Hanukah" 200 years longer than anyone was saying "merry Christmas".

And the Greeks and Romans were celebrating the Winter Solstice, when the days start becoming longer again, for hundreds of years before that.

The Christians are Johnny-Come-Latelies to the celebration of the Winter Solstice. I don't why you people have to insist on owning it. It ain't yours.

None of this has anything to do with how we celebrate Christmas in America.

The point is, not nearly as many people care about how y'all celebrate Christmas in America as you want to believe.

If only that's all it was. No, they want people to stop saying Merry Christmas because they hate Christianity. Always have.

Merry Christmas was always allowed, not against the law.

It isn't always appropriate to say to other groups that celebrate that time of year differently.

When working with international people or Jewish people it's just considerate to understand that.

Happy Holidays only means you do you.
So, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all.

Yeah - but in many scenarios/situations now Merry Christmas has been replaced by the generic 'Happy Holidays' and in many cases the term 'Merry Christmas' is frowned upon. But you already know this.

Hanukah was a very minor holiday for most of that time. It arose to greater prominence specifically to "compete" with Christmas.

With that being said, almost every religion on the planet celebrates some sort of holiday at or near the Winter Solstice.

There are dozens and dozens of holidays out there that you probably don't congratulate and celebrate with every believer out there. It's unrealistic to think someone can know them all and be able to spit that out on demand to every necessary person that they meet.

It would be pretty racist for me to look at an Asian and assume they celebrate Dongzhi anyway. And Happy Holidays is incredibly bland and non-specific.

Christmas is probably the actual 1 near universal holiday for most developed nations. Very very different.
