I probably know more than most on this board about employment based legal immigration process, how broken the system is, and how it is being exploited constantly.
Do share those thoughts when you have a moment.

I'm especially interested as to why, for blue-collar work, seemingly the only solution afforded is illegal immigration.

It is not. One of my son’s best friends is a Mexican currently about 2/3rd’s of the way thru the process the OP described. He is a plumber which is about as blue collar as it gets. Great guy, damn good plumber, married to a white gal, has a beautiful little girl, and can cook his arse off. He is also a big time Trump supporter. He does wish the immigration process was a bit faster and I agree that the process does need to be cleaned up. Typical government inefficiencies.

I suppose since you did it the correct way, the government didn't give you all the same freebies that illegal border crossers got?

Welcome brother I'm sure it's been mentioned already but what was your original nationality?

My mother was a naturalized citizen as well.

Congratulations and welcome, glad you're here.

It's customary to tip waitstaff (at sit down restaurants) 15-20% for good service. Please take note of this and spread the word amongst your Indian brethren about our customs in that regard. Thanks

Tell me more about the board opinion of Indians only hiring from their Indian tribe. Is this a real thing, and if so how systematic is it?

If you are an Indian business owner in Alabama, you going to hire an Indian guy to manage your business or an illegal immigrant or black southerner?

You are hiring the Indian guy married to your cousin.

After living in USA legally for 21 years, 8 months, and 26 days, I finally became a US citizen last week.

Congratulations. You are a special breed.

Almost all of us were blessed by accident of birth - yours is through conviction and hard work. We should celebrate people who travel your path.

My gift to myself to celebrate my citizenship is going to be a custom made bison leather boot from Frank's Boots from Spokane, WA.

It’s crazy that Indians buy buffalo boots instead of hunting the buffalo and making them themselves these days

I was trying to be a green card holder as soon as I can. I got my initial Green Card in 2022, that expired in early 2024. So I applied for my permanent Green Card in late 2023.

Us CIS has basically stopped adjudiciating marriage paste permanent Green Card applications and waiting for people to apply for citizenship one year down the line.

I applied for citizenship as soon as I was eligible to.

How I feel about illegal aliens...

I don't like what Biden government did at all. Having an open border is crazy.

Having said that, there is a lot of nuances to this. I think there is always going to be a certain number of illegal immigrants living in the country. I personally think that is okay, as that means USA is still the best country in the world.

I also think the asylum system needs to be changed so that people from countries like India can't really exploit it. And that is happening a lot. But true messed up places, like Afganistan, certain people, especially those worked as interpreters for US troops needs to get asylum.

I honestly don't think either party wants to fix the illegal immigration problem and just wants to use it to win elections.

I have strong views about changes to the legal immigration system as well.

What do you feel were the biggest challenges with the immigration system? Any recommendations for improvements?

Watch out, you're now a candidate to be replaced by an H1B from TCS or Cognizant, etc. The Indian conglomerate I work for now holds regular meetings to every employee in the city on how to avoid answering questions from DHS if they show up for an inspection. But congrats anyway!

It does happen some in silicon valley. Never lived their so I do not know how wide spread it is. Certainly happening.

Each Indian state has its own culture and language. Nepotism and discrimination like this is usually done to help out people from the same Indian state. Not any random Indian can benefit from this.
