This is the way. Executive can reduce it but can't eliminate and even then I'm not sure how much they can do unless Congress removes a bunch of the funding in the budget.

i'm a little confused. i thought rep-Massie was introducing a bill to get it removed? can DOGE eliminate almost all gov't agencies by itself?

which ones require congressional and/or executive action for termination?

gut doesn't mean eliminate
'
it means reform or cut hte fat

of course MSNBC will make it sound like the devil is against our children

but if teachers want a raise, they should be cheerleading this effort

because the DEpt of Education is full of employees who do not teach, the sit in a cubical making more than teachers with full benefits...

top heavy is one of the many issues with department of education

states use the money towards the students to ensure the students can perform and get the help they need. I just know places like Louisiana where people just line their pockets and move on exist. You wouldn't necessarily need all of that 4% to go to the states as well.

That's an issue for the voters of each state to decide and react to. An no, no Fing way the federal government should keep any of that money. They'd find a way to blow it on condoms and abortion education for Sudan.

Unless they remove things like IDEA, nothing will change.

Have you not noticed the pace at which things are happening? It's been 2 weeks and the entire DC establishment is on defense against Team 47.

How is it DOGE claims to have saved 48 billion already? Is that money they say can be cut or has Trump issued some order cutting it?

Some people say that it is unconstitutional for the executive NOT to spend the money congress appropriated to the executive to spend. But here is the deal, congress also put waste, fraud and abuse clauses in those appropriation bills. Before DOGE no executive (president) has exercised these waste, fraud and abuse clauses on a large scale.

This is what Trump is doing with the help of DOGE.

Congress puts these waste, fraud and abuse clauses in appropriation bills to win over fiscally "conservative" congressmen. They NEVER anticipate that the executive will exercise these constitutional clauses and they typically never do.

But here we are.

Dept of Ed could be eliminated entirely and no one would ever notice. fricking get rid of it.

They oversee and fund state programs for injured workers (vocational rehabilitation) and the blind so as long as you are ready to eliminate those programs that help people in need or have the state fund it through raised taxes that would be fine.

Patrick should follow that up showing how our education has spiraled downward since the DOE's inception.

I don’t know. Hopefully someone with more knowledge of DOGE can help both of us better understand it

As others have stated, DOGE can recommend cuts but have no power to actually DO anything other than advise. The actual cutting would be the Executive and Congress. Any departments falling under the Executive branch fall under the rule of the president, others will need congressional action.

As I understand it.....

Let there be no doubt - the Dept. of Education is God-awful. That said, there are much worse ones that rank higher.

DOGE can't end anything, but can recommend many cost-cutting and downsizing actions that the Executive Branch can implement.

Cannot happen soon enough. Then get rid of the State DOE. Schools belong in their community to be run by their community.

I was a big Ron Paul supporter and roommates with a poli sci Obama loving fig in 2012 that always forced poli conversations whenever he could so he knew where I stood. He came into the room one day screaming about Ron Paul wanting to do away with the DOE expecting me to be outraged or something over that. Don’t remember exactly what I said other than the gist of it being “good” and him storming out the house slamming every door on the way out.

I find myself wondering how that psycho is doing everytime I see a story where I want to drop him an I told you so

My challenge to Dept. of Education fanbois is simple:

I ask them to show me the specific passage in the Constitution of the United States where it charges the federal government with the primary education of the nation's children.

I can show you the corresponding passage in The Communist Manifesto.

The president can end it himself with a swipe of the pen. If congress says anything about it he should ask them to show him where they derived constitutional authority to have anything to do with education (which is the domain of the several States). Tell them to provide "book, chapter, and verse" where the federal government has anything to do with education.

The way congress weaseled into dictating education standards to the states was by offering money for school lunch programs, and then creating other federal programs which are only available to schools that kowtow to what the fed govt wants them to do.

Let Trump strike down the Dept of Education with eh stroke of a pen and then let the Left take it to SCOTUS for a ruling if they disagree.

From my understanding, DOGE has no real legislative powers and is only an advisory panel that points out government waste.

I'm not even sure if what they are doing is legal at this point. Doesn't an advisory board need to be chartered and have agendas and such?
