Prolly left a few of them behind in 'Ghanistan.

Neither Russia nor China’s “hypersonic” missiles will even work. The fuel is so unstable at the speed, realistic, we are atleast another 20 years out until any country has a reliable functioning missile.
Yep, these are just air-launched Iskanders with a few tweaks, they aren't some next level weapon.

We have them, but Gen Synchronized Retreat Miley made sure the engines run in reverse

For example, how long was the F-117 a capable weapons system before the general public and our adversaries knew about it?
The Soviets knew about them almost immediately, although they probably didn't know about the full capabilities until Desert Storm. It was speculated by smart folks (e.g. Clancy) well before they were officially revealed.
Clancy was famously investigated about both his speculation about the F-117 and submarine tech contained within Red Storm Rising and The Hunt for Red October - I think the CIA (or DIA) finally just made him a contractor, gave him a security clearance so they could tell him what he could or couldn't say in future novels.

I don't believe for a second that any military possess any weapons that the US military has not already had for at least a decade.

It's always been my understanding that the United States has been sufficiently ahead of the curve with military technology/weaponry that if our adversaries (Russia/China) are broadcasting a "new" weapon, not only do we have the means of defeating that tech, (in this case, the hypersonic missiles), but we probably have a way of countering the NEXT level tech that they haven't made public yet.

We have tic tacs.
Russia and China are so far behind they don’t even know it.
We spend more on defense than the next 10 nations combined. I’m not worried

Hypersonic missiles aren't really that great. They are hard to knock down, but so are supersonic missiles, and I guarantee our enemies can't shoot down most of our supersonic stuff.
The hypersonic missiles also don't deliver some magic payload, it is standard warhead stuff. Additionally, if they are nuclear tipped, the world would end. Our submarines would frick their shite up.
We do have rail guns and lasers though, and all the shite no one knows about.

They're bad for the environment, i'm sure if we did have them we turned them into some sort of LGBBQ statue of a penis

Officially we have walked away from those I think.

The Germans laugh at our puny "rail guns"...

Buddy we had these in the 60's and have had them long phased out. We have lasers that can render anything it touches white hot. We have *current* manned missions on Mars. The TR-3B is being sold to private buyers. The cat is just about out of the bag.
Anywho, hypersonics are meant to scare the layman. Dont be a layman.

We do have a fleet of sharks with freaking lasers.

Why have hypersonic missiles when you can have supersonic missiles? Mwuhaahahaha
We have missiles so fast they hit the target before they are launched.
Posted on 3/21/22 at 10:15 am to SlickRickerz
They also still have to know where the target is. An aircraft carrier isn't easy to locate and it won't be where it was by the time the missile gets there.

Ridiculous even thinking we don't have them for a long, long time already.
Where in the hell do you think the Chinese and Russians got the technology from? They stole it from us (or bought it from a *cough cough* American Politician who also sold our uranium to them.

The Russian hypersonic missiles are conventional and have the capability to deliver a tactical nuke. It's been designed for use in Europe. The test flight and one field flight uses antique technology for the propulsion and the core of the missile. To date, as far as what is known, there is no intended ocean use at this stage. So the one used in Ukraine was one of several expected prototypes, not a assembly line production model.
While working on a more productive reliable platform, the US will be in the position to protect the carrier fleet with defense systems against hypersonic missiles.
The US has been testing and designing a more modern capable missile to offset the Russian and Chinese prototypes. They can test those at Edwards, Area 51 and Section 4 without anyone knowing they exist. What makes Edwards interesting, hangers are built to conceal new aircraft out of sight from the public. The F-117 flew for about three years in the desert before being used in Iraq. There is a new bomber to replace the aging B1 and B2. The B-23 is at three sites being tested now. While living at Edwards, we saw some of the strangest things being tested at the base. Occasionally flights from Area 51 as well.
My Dad inspected SR-71 and U-2 spy planes on bases within the main base. Away from home for days at a time.
You'll know when an new platform is battle ready ...They'll drop smart bombs on targets and the anti aircraft positions will fill the skies with tracers ...while the pilots are just about back home ready for a drink. Just like CNN and their glorious fireworks displays after the F-117's had dropped their payloads over Baghdad and already left the scene before the fireworks display.
Meanwhile, Russia has begun testing their new T14 Battle Tank with some of the same capabilities as the Abrams. However...the Abrams is being upgraded by Raytheon and others with far superior distance and guidance systems plus munitions to give the US the continued control of the battlefield over the Russians and Chinese.
While Russia and China play checkers ...the US is well ahead and actually playing 3D chess.
