I’m a fed that’s losing telework. It sucks for our group because our metrics are all better than when we were in the office full-time, but people like her who use telework as a daycare ruin it for everyone.
Telework mornings are when I read to my kids before school since I have about 15-20 minutes of time that I normally use to get ready on office days so I’m going to miss that and it’s hard to explain to young kids why I can’t. Morale is gonna be so shitty I’m interested to see what work is like next week

At the end of the day, rto is about money, not productivity. Lazy people at home don't all of a sudden develop a work ethic in the office. It comes down to commercial real estate. Too many vacancies in downtown offices and apartments. They need to fill them up. Also, both private and public over hired during covid so they need to trim that fat.

frick that spoiled bitch. I've raised two kids and had to deal with daycare and driving to work. Hell, I've worked in Industrial Construction for 33 years and worked in different places and different schedules constantly, 4 - 10's to 7 - 12's, and made it happen just like millions of other people.
Now the useless folks working in DC can do the same.

No shite! They’re being given 6 weeks to figure it out. That’s crazy. They should’ve been order into the office on Monday

'You go sell your house and buy a new house in 6 weeks. Also, enroll all your kids in new schools across the country mid-year. I bet you can't do it in 6 weeks.

Can you detail out how WFH metrics were better, and why you'd think that is?

I have a former coworker who was willing to take a pay cut to work from home in order to take care of their kids. All he would have needed was a laptop to be able to do his work (a lot of people have take home laptops).
frick that. Boss was right to say no.
My company allows employees WFH on Mondays and Fridays if the work needs allow for it (manager discretion), but it has a very clear policy: when you WFH you cannot be a sitter for your kids, too. You must have child care arranged if it's needed.
Too many people who claim they can do both simply cannot. Work then suffers and other employees have to pickup the slack.

You're just not going to get much sympathy here..
You are servants to the American people
That's the deal you signed up for...we're all out here busting our asses and paying taxes... it's almost impossible to get fired as a government employee whereas out here, you can get canned all kinds of reasons.
the government doesn't do anything but burn and waste money
Your kids need to see thier father leave the house for "work"...
that's the real world...
Going back to the office is the goverment's way of saying "you have it too easy, it's time to lead by example!"
change is coming because it's needed..

DC sucks I bet...
maybe they need to decentralize things a bit, but going into the office is always a good thing
People sitting behind a computer by themselves at home all day isn't good

Oh No, what to do, what to do?
Having to go to work and find child care?
What a burden. The American people are grieving for you sweetheart.

I miss out on her smile every morning and she doesn’t get to see me until late in the day.
It sucks, but it is my job.

We got some idiots who make any excuse to WFH at my office. One day it’s car/sick/somebody else sick. I know they are playing video games or watching porn. Their work or sales numbers show it.
And you think being in the office will improve their sales numbers? Slackers will slack no matter if they’re in the office or at home. Large corporations typically refuse to fire low performers. I’ve worked for three Fortune 500 companies and every last one likes to sweep those problems under the rug.

I’ll question that metrics are better in WFH. Equal is possible but other than morale, I simply can’t find a metric where a large workforce performs better at home.
I said above that I WFH so I can’t begrudge somebody that is sad at the loss of that freedom. I recognize that I’ve enjoyed being around my kids more but mine are also 15 and 18 and from a young age knew that they were not allowed to interrupt my work.
I’ve worked with vendors that have their kids on camera in the background and don’t mute. We’ve had 3 employees start work from home but had that revoked because of falling asleep or running errands during the middle of the day. I’ve never slept but I have run errands at lunch with my boss knowing about it before hand.
I’m in a dress shirt with my workplace clean and presentable every day.
I think it’s the people that abused it with the problems above that probably ruined it for the masses.
In my experience 20% of the people I work with across all fields exceed at WFH, 30% are fine, and 50% abuse it and should be in the office or just flat out fired.

On a post later on in this thread I said that the department has yet to find someone who can do the work as well as my former co-worker. So now that they are gone the others are now having to cover the slack. The department head has asked twice for them to return. They offered more money the first time then offered WFH the second time. Both times they denied.
There is ZERO chance that they could do nothing and it not get noticed. That department is struggling now and I absolutely love it.
I am not really for WFH. However if the department would have allowed WFH the person would have actually been back in the office (WFH would have been 12-18 months) and the department would be in better shape.
