my point is that the journalists covering this race aren't interested in covering it, they are interested in influencing it.

One, that's not justification for putting your hands on anyone, and two, in this race, what have they done in particular that crossed the line from covering a race to influencing it?

His statement from his team contradicts their account.
It's their word vs his team's word. No physical evidence to prove one way or the other makes this a wash.

What are the courtroom stats about eye witness testimonies again? I heard they're not as great as one might think.

Sure, you haven't posted anything supporting this guy, but you're sure going out of your way to try and understand his actions by pointing out that the reporters are biased. And I don't think, despite what you claim, that you've posted anything saying he should be disqualified either.
Like I said, it's not surprising members of the media are supporting his opposition if this guy is literally attacking them. A candidate cannot physically attack a reporter, whether the reporter is a shill or not.

Interested in seeing what he said to the police. His campaign statement didn't seem to count on eyewitness testimony that this was assault. Sadly, lying about this may lose him more credibility than assault. A "he had it coming" kind of response would (again sadly) make him a bigger hero with the large number of journalist-haters.
Either way, even if he never serves a day (perhaps especially if he never serves a day), he'll not need to a buy a beer in a lot of places.
