Citizen’s arrest could have been effected.
But they didn’t meet the criteria for a citizen’s arrest. Namely because they didn’t know what crime (if any) Arbery had committed.

This case is the opposite of rittenhouse. They were being vigilantes and started the confrontation that led to arbery’s death. He made have been a habitual line stepper but they should have turned all the pictures over to the police and let them handle it

You left out a couple things. Before he tried to take the gun, they pointed the gun at him, and also hit him with their truck.

Not sure you can claim self-defense when you're the one who brought the deadly force to the encounter in the first place. The McMichaels claim they had reason to believe Arbery had a gun; they why confront him...turn it over to the police.
Four rules for going to a gun fight:
(1) Bring a gun. Check.
(2) Bring enough gun. .357 and shotgun, check.
(3) Anything worth shooting once, is worth shooting twice. Waive that since the first shot was from the shotgun.
(4) And the most important rule for going to a gun fight: DON'T GO. Send a cop instead.
