We killed Ayatollah and 49 top Iranians. What more did you want in the initial strike ?
Technically that was the Israelis.

The Israelis aren’t going to invade Iran. The Iranian people can’t do it without support and I don’t think the Gulf Arab states are capable of providing that support.

You think the Iranian people are going to trust an Arab coalition led by the Saudi’s to rebuild their government and economy?

No, where did you get that from?

He just did it a month ago in Venezuela. Someone will take power and he will tell him stop attacking us and our allies or you will be killed too. We just showed we can take out the top 50 people in their government in 24 hours.
He left the same government in place. I don’t think you can realistically do that in Iran where the social and historical norms are massively different.

This is counterfactual speculation…

I don't think Trump is looking for the kind of 'regime change' everyone is debating the merits of. He's not going to bring American-style democracy. He just wants an Iranian to take the reins who will be obedient to the US.
Israel is calling the shots. Even Marco Rubio admitted that to everyone.

Overtly I mean.

That’s not really what happened. The original plan was to strike the night following the initial bombing that killed Iranian leadership. Israel had intelligence on the meeting place and wasn’t going to pass up the opportunity to kill the ayatollah and his inner circle so the timeline for the entire operation was moved up.

Original plans don't matter. Action matters.

Well, it definitely isn't your latest daddy, Khamenei calling the shots.

I agree the victory sign went up too quickly but we killed the supreme leader with the fist strike and eviscerated their entire command and control folks so a little jubilance was warranted.
I wouldn't doubt if we already have people on the ground. They are 100% not leaving until they have confirmation that all nuclear sites are destroyed which means some people on the ground.

It doesn't take a general to understand that unfulfilled plans don't start or end military strikes. But noted. We can cling to your "well, actually" original plan fantasy.

It’s not a fantasy. It’s what happened.
The US started planning this operation during the protests in January because we saw a legitimate opportunity at regime change. We wanted to start the bombing then but the gulf states AND Israel wanted to wait until we got more air defense assets into the region along with the fact that our carrier was was not in theater with the EA-18 Growlers to jam and attack Iranian air defenses. The timeline was pushed back and Israel jumped on board.

It’s been said, if the US kept boots on the ground in Iraq after desert storm 1991 we would have been welcomed by the people as liberators. We did not and those who stood up against saddam were slaughtered when we left. People remember that kind of stuff. And they were not quick to rise up the second time around.
To me it’s not so much if we need to put boots on the ground. It’s if there is a plan to win this thing in short order. If the Iranian people are unarmed and not trained to use military equipment I would imagine ground troops will be needed.
Seems establishing safe areas for the Iranian resistance would be a noble task. Let the Iranian resistance do the dangerous checkpoints and we can hang back, dug in, in case the IRGC shows up. Then we can hold them off until air power can take them out.
ETA It’s all in the way that you do it.

I just hope we grab a few of the Hypersonic missiles China flew in right before the first assault. That would be very valuable.
