re: If boomers seem mentally tough, it's because these 10 childhood realities shaped them

9 of those 10 are exactly what my childhood was like. The exception was No. 4 re: physical punishment. After my folks died I asked my brother: 'Were either of us ever spanked?
Him: 'Nope. We never misbehaved.'
We agreed that it was because disappointing our Dad would bring unbearable guilt. I can't imagine my life if I'd been raised by a single mom.

I went through all of that. Was a great way to grow up.
Do you remember being a free range kid? 'Just go out and play!' It really taught you to be careful at an early age.

I’m not a boomer (born in 69) but everyone of those items holds true for me.
Parents had no idea where we were for 12-14 hours a day, especially in the summer.
Hell, we go camping alone for 2-3 days by the river sometimes - no electronics to check in with no adult with us. Maybe once in the 2-3 day window a parent would stop by to see if we were alive. That’s literally what the dad who stopped by would say “just making sure you guys are still alive”.
The rest of the time we were on our own. It was freaking paradise.

This list is for Gen X.
And Gen X ARE NOT Boomers. That is the generation before us….

You misspelled 30 year old white women.
Boomer politicians got run over by 30 year old white women? I thought boomers were supposed to be mentally tough?

Voted in. See Obama for example.
quote:
Young Voters: Obama won 66% of votes among those younger than age 30.
Minority Voters: He garnered 96% of black voters and two-thirds of Hispanic voters.
Women: Obama attracted 56% of female voters.
Women and young people love being serfs.

Except boomers and older vote at a WAY higher clip than 30 year old white women. You knew that already though.

...Boomer and Xer GOP Governors did though.
Literally half the governors in 2020 were in their 40's and 50's including illustrious shutdown wizards like Newsom and Whitmer.

What was the generation that started giving all of the kids trophies.

So, they created the soft children then mock those that they perceive to be soft. Typical boomer

If boomers were so tough...whyd they bail themselves out multiple times and force young people to stay inside for two years to protect themselves(not the young people)
Where are you getting this "data". Last time i checked, about 39% of those over 65 identify as Republican and 33% are Democrat. Not a 1 for 1 in the age range but last time i checked Republicans, even the old ones, were hardly forcing people to stay inside. If they wanted to stay protected, they stayed inside themselves and were ok with some kids were outside playing.

When they complained about having nothing to do, their parents didn't hand them a device or drive them to an activity. They were told to "go figure it out."
If I ever said that to my parents they would find some chores for me to do. So I never asked that question. I would disappear into the woods with my friends and have all sorts of adventures. Building forts, having pine cone wars (especially when the green hard ones were on the ground).
We never had trouble finding something to do.

In the 2008 election, the Millennials generation played a significant role, voting at a higher rate than previous generations. Specifically, 50% of eligible Millennials voted, making them the largest generation in the electorate at that time.
Obama vs Mccain
18-29 66 32
30-44 52 46
45-64 50 49
65 & over 45 53
Thank you Millennials for adding to our debt and health care cost, while simultaneously whining about how hard it is.

The mental toughness we see in boomers today wasn't the result of careful parenting strategies or intentional character-building exercises.
Compared to the parenting that’s done now, it absolutely was.
Thing is, it was just common sense then. Now, it’s like some controversial revelation.
