This absolutely proves either stupidity or journalistic fraud or both.
You ALWAYS have to register for the draft. This simply makes it easier and not something you have to worry about doing. Simple as that.
The fearmongering is just that. Although I do lean a bit towards the morons posting this crap really didn't know men already have to register within a short period after their 18th birthday.

Same. I graduated hs at 17 and didn’t do this until I went back home for Christmas for a week in AIT where my mom told me I had to this anyway which I thought was really dumb at the time already being in the army and all

Well not quite.
I mentioned having to wait in line for hours. I got registered while renewing my driver's license and registering to vote. Did all 3 at the dmv.
This you just get registered automatically. You don't have to go anywhere and do it.
