Trump needs to go young with this pick. And someone who absolutely doesn’t care what libs or the media think.

it’s risky since they would likely retire in a dem admin if Vance loses 2028.

One of the best things Vance has going for him is the Dems are in rough shape on '28 candidates.
AOC will be seen as way too young, not ready for anything and not serious enough.
Shapiro won't get approved by the squad and Palestine wing.
Newscum seems like their best shot on paper, but are they as a whole willing to have it be white guy vs. white guy?

Will be hard to find anyone close to a real substitute

Will be even harder when Thomas has to hang them up;

I was afraid of that. One of Mitch’s few positives was getting SCotUS nominees confirmed, even if those justices have suffered from rinocity on occasion.

Senate Democrats would welcome this shitshow.

Trump cant get his subcabinet picks approved, he could appoint Mr Rogers and your team would act like it was David Duke.

The GOP would be insane not to replace Thomas and Alito during Trump's second term.

Alito has truly been a great Justice. Solid, reliable, common sense. Everything we could have ever asked for.

The problem is that Trump's appointees haven't been nearly as solid. Especially Kavanaugh.

The statistical likelihood of each joining the liberal majority in 5-4 cases has been as follows:

Gorsuch: 43%
Barrett: 23%
Kavanaugh: 52%. (Yep, over half his cases)

By contrast, Alito has joined the liberal majority in 5-4 cases in less than 10% of his cases.

This makes sense, as Trump does not have a conservative philosophical basis from which to pick judges. He's a populist and his own mixed conservative/liberal leanings mirror those he appoints.

...and then there was one...

The first one they really pulled out all the stops to prevent his confirmation (with all due respect to John Tower).

I hope it's only rumors.

And if it's not, the President MUST do much better than he did with Amy. She's been a huge disappointment. We need a much stronger, much more trustworthy conservative.

we're so fricked if trump gets 4, possibly 5 sc picks. not because of him - he has no idea who these judges are and is far too lazy to dig into it. it's because snakes like stephen miller are who's doing the picking

Alito and Thomas need to bow out while the bowing is good BUT that said we need some dyed in the wool rock ribbed conservatives to replace them. Both of them are the conservative stalwarts and anchors on pretty much everything the USSC rules upon. Their service has been VITAL to our country and I hope they know how appreciative us conservatives are collectively for them and their wise and measured rulings...
