If churches promote political stances, then tax them.

Just as an intellectual exercise: Why shouldn’t church property be taxed?

Presumably that is what is being discussed—unless they intend to remove the non-profit status.

I’ll agree to tax churches when the Clinton Foundation loses its 501(c) classification

What if churches promote moral stances that impact politics?

I don’t doubt it, it’s just frustrating when morons want to infringe on freedoms, especially when those freedoms are about helping other people. I think the spirit behind the thinking has been touched upon in this thread, taxing is essentially a weapon the government uses to try and ensure it’s monopoly on what it designates as “good”

you mean promoting ideals held by their religion if those ideals happen to be a political issue for others?

I wonder what you are trying to say here....it's no real surprise that churches are typically conservative and promote conservative social values (man/woman marriage, pro-life, gender is God given, etc).

Just like any other non-profit (tax deductible btw) special interests they are going to promote politicians that support their values....it's been that way forever.

What benevolent alphabet agency (led by a politically appointee) gets to decide which churches promote politics and which don’t?

Then I guess we might as well tax all charities, HOA's, book clubs, hunting lease memberships, little league baseball teams, etc. Basically anything that people pool money together for the benefit of helping themselves or others.

What if politicians promote or demote church stances? By your logic, politicians should be taxed, I kinda agree with that logic.

Moreover - how exactly does he think that taxing political speech, is somehow less of a problem taxing religious speech. It’s basically all kinds of first amendment problems.
