I was using the thread as an example of the mentality that people have. Though you are correct, that’s not a great argument.
While I don’t thinking in wide generalizations is necessarily good, I do think we can intuit points from them at times.
I don’t think the amount of republicans who break with trump on certain issues is significant enough to call it anything less than a cult of personality.
The things they defend are simply beyond my understanding. People really think the 2020 election was stolen and that there was nothing wrong with 2024. Those were my breaking points with Trump. To me, anyone who defends these things lives in a separate reality from what I do.
I believe in small government, fiscal spending, American exceptionalism, but because I don’t believe in a grand conspiracy, most Trump supporters would say I’m liberal.
I weep that the party adheres to the whims of one man and no longer adheres to an ideological philosophy. I’m disappointed that there are no longer expectations for a presidents behavior.
If this sounds like dishonest pearl clutching, my apologies, but it’s what I think.

He backs state-run pharmacies (just like Mandami), capping interest rates (long a dream of Bernie and Cheiftess Warren). Hell, even closed borders were a Democrat plank through Bill Cllnton's terms.
For example, spending - how do conservatives motivate Trump to stop spending like a Democrat?

It would be no different with any Republican in office
Remember the protests of W?

DJT is the greatest party leader in a long long time.

Most socialist president of our time.

That’s a pretty whopping statement. Can you explain in detail, perhaps compare and contrast with, say, Obama, and describe why he would be decisively ahead of BO in that regard, as just one example? I’m sure others might be similarly curious.

Sure. I say it mainly in jest, but democrats are often called socialist for their penchant to increase large amounts of spending for social safety-net programs. This is not actually socialism.
Socialism is a move towards the abolishment of private ownership (this is an incredibly simplistic definition, but it’ll do for now.)
Had Obama gone out of his way to abolish private health insurance and have it be a single-payer system, that would have easily been the most socialist policy ever put forth by a modern day president.
Trump having the government take stakes in private companies is socialism to a degree.

I wanted to at a minimum let you know I appreciate your rational, courteous back and forth on this, it’s not exactly a common occurrence. Good man, even if we don’t necessarily agree.

It’s our country’s 250th anniversary but it’s a shame that Trump is the President for it. I’ll always respect the office but damn can we just get someone else in office like Rubio or JDV?
Yeah, it's so horrible our current president loves this country more than any other leader and has been preaching its greatness for over 40 years while other politicians want us to be lowered to level of every other country.
You people are so emotionally and mentally weak. Clearly, the 24/7 anti-Trump rhetoric has seeped into your brain. No one in DC loves this country and wants it to be successful more than Trump.
The only president in recent history to understand American greatness and you want him tossed out because of your feelings. Without Trump, this country would be over with 8 years of Hillary and Biden.
You conservatives really don't appreciate anything. You just want to bitch and moan. You praise ineffective leaders who deliver nothing of value and shite on the ones who have actually done something for you for not being perfect.
You act like spoiled brats, which is odd considering your politicians before Trump did nothing but bend you over. Oh, I get it now.

DJT is his own thing. He’s all for Donald. That’s it. Not sure he’s even a “nationalist”.

Show up to vote when Trump is not on the ballot?
Why would someone who wants to reduce government look at Virginia and think advocating for less spending is the way to get votes? The majority of people are fricking morons who would destroy the country to get their handouts.

Well, first off, as conservatives we need to get other conservatives in congress. It is patently obvious that Republicans are decidedly NOT conservative. The entirety of the chambers that meet beneath the Capitol Dome in DC are corrupted, self-serving leftists.
The good-ole-boy redneck that lives down the road from me said it best: "Don't re-elect nobody!"

The SAME can be said for Democrats.
If you fight wokeness, you go further left and the Republicans will win.
It is true.

It's like calling you a murderer because some white dude in Arizona committed a murder.
