Yeah it’s pretty dopey. No one will ever use bitcoin to buy anything outside of drugs on the darkweb. Even if you wanted to buy something, there are so many other cryptos with little to no fees that would be better to use than bitcoin.

The whole philosophy on Bitcoin dramatically shifted very early on. It was envisioned as digital currency, free of traditional government fiat management. Almost like a return to the gold standard type money.
It was supposed to actually be used for transactions, buying and selling. Like digital money.
But as the value rose that's not at all how it's viewed and used.
The price isn't stable enough to be money. People view it as an investment vehicle. As OP pointed out, people buy it on the sole expectation the price will go up, very similar to stocks. However unlike stocks it represents nothing actually tangible. With stocks you have a unit of ownership of a company. With Bitcoin you literally have nothing but the Bitcoin.

That's the only way it can be regulated...unless dems take over again.

Dumb statement. I bought my 4th and 5th btc mining machines from bitmain with btc. Been making purchases at newegg for over a decade with btc. Also been buying gift cards at 10-20% off for a dozen+ years as well.

unlike cash, no more bitcoin can be printed. So there is that scarcity thing.
FWIW BTW, gold and silver aren't going to do jack squat for you in a real SHTF scenario. Ammo will be greater than gold alone.

You quoted a partial list of the attributes bitcoin doesn’t have. Dollars are very efficient when making transactions. I can go almost anywhere in the world and trade dollars for goods. I can’t do that with bitcoin.

Water will be more important than food, but that doesn’t mean food isn’t “going to do jack squat for you”.
I’ll have ammo AND gold. I’m going to use the gold to hire a bunch of baws like you to guard all the roads into Louisiana, and I’ll be the new Kingfish. When you apply, bring a picture of your wife.

Who is buying stocks hoping someone will buy them for less off them?

dollars are not very efficient to move large sums. BTC isn't there yet either as far as people accepting it. It might never be but it is much more efficient. Just saying BTC was not created as an investment vehicle. It's just a side effect.

The other problem with crypto is that it doesn't work without electricity and computer networks.
What good is being a crypto billionaire in the apocalypse.

I used it for a down payment on my house three years ago
Obviously this wouldn’t have been possible if the seller wasn’t capable of receiving it, but to say it’s only used for drugs on the darkweb isn’t accurate.

+90% of BTC's price is pure speculation, and there's nothing wrong with trying to make some money through speculation. One just needs to keep in mind you're speculating. The first time some bad actors introduce some malevolent code into the blockchain you'll see how speculation works.

You mean you sold your btc and used that as a down payment?

Right. What he's saying is typical for people who doesn’t know much about crypto.

Not really.
There is a speculation component shared by BTC and buying stocks but when you buy stocks you're generally buying part of a hard asset comprised of buildings, equipment, a workforce, and a finished product or service.

No I transferred it to the seller’s wallet. Down payment was used loosely. It was more of a “proof of intent to purchase” move more accurately.
