To save the PetroDollar is certainly a more coherent theory than what we were told "officially" about the reasons for our assaults on Iraq and Libya.
As for Venezuela, of course it's too early to tell what the main reason was for commandeering their oil for the President's sole discretionary use, but this makes more sense than "DRUGS!" or "Democracy!" Personally, I appreciate President Trump dropping those pretenses. As Stephen Miller noted, we doesn't have to justify our reasons to anyone anymore.
The fact that we still don't know much about "our" alleged "sale" of "500 million dollars" worth of Venezuelan oil is suspicious. The only reports about it specifically say a sale "WORTH 500 million dollars." They don't identify the buyer(s). They say that the alleged proceeds were deposited in several accounts, the largest of which is at "a bank" in Qatar.
Since the funds were secured through $1 billion worth of US military effort, you would think there would be more transparency about this first deal. It's safe to say we aren't being told the full story.

It was dumb to remove the gold standard though.

I only saw the first page reference to "petro dollars". I didn't take the time to watch the entire thing. I've wasted enough time going down rabbit holes provided by other posters.
The irony for these guys is that Trump is owned by the energy companies and other "global capitalists". Just check out the acquisition of the Hess Corporation and John Hess's contributions to PACs supporting Trump and other Hess political activity.
In the end, Venezuela is about oil, not drugs.

I’m with you.
Why watch trash without an offer for a soulution?
The group that believes ObamaCare was a solution at all.
How many times do you Democrats have to screw everything up….before you grow up? Dumbest smart kids on the planet.

It is interesting that a BRICS ally has fallen, AND a BRICS country is on the verge of being toppled.

So, as an American, am I better off having oil traded in US dollars or am I better off with one of the alternatives. I’m guessing the former.

Causation =/= correlation
Proof. Since 1974 tUSA has only been to war with 1 oil producing country.
Not that the US dollar being the global trade currency is a bad thing for us and that we will do shady shite to keep it that way, but c'mon man.

What makes my currency, and my portfolio, more valuable?

Ask yourself how we’ve managed to rack up ~$40T in debt and we keep rolling along. It’s because of the world’s demand for US Dollars. Why do they continue to demand it? That’s right, they need it for oil. As long as they continue to need dollars, they’ll continue to buy our debt. If oil is denominated in some other currency, our lives and the quality thereof will collapse. All these folks complaining about waging war for oil ought to take a peek at what their lives will look like if the world no longer needs US dollars. They’ll be demanding war for oil faster than you can yell “Nazi!”

Sounds like I’m better off with American hegemony based on control of the oil supply. I’m good with that. Always better to be the bully than the bullied.

All of us are, including the vociferous opponents of the pursuit of oil. This is why the policy of pushing “green energy” and renewables never made sense to me. Aside from discarding a lucrative natural resource we have in abundance and making it useless, we need people to need dollars. They need dollars for oil, not windmills. It’s almost like the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing in government.
