he gave in so he could give the SOTU. Here's the thing though: She already changed her reason for delaying the SOTU. What makes him think she won't just come up with reason #3 and continue to delay the SOTU?

No quite. I was speaking from Pelosi’s position and what she’s likely to do. And if we end up here again in 3 weeks, Trump will have the moral high ground, feds get back pay, and SOTU, but not much else.... which leads to...

Trump doesn’t yield today without another card to play. I hope it’s more than the emergency. but if it’s that - so be it.

Trump just threw gasoline on his chances for 2020 just a day after saying the GOP wouldn't cave.....he's about to strike the match.

Right...the statement is almost contradictory in itself.

Negotiate does not mean one side totally gets their way...and it definitely doesn't mean if one side doesn't get their way then it is all the other side's fault...

Trump was punked again. It is like taking candy from a baby for Pelosi.

It is laughable at this point. You decide to play chicken, you dont turn the wheel....period.

You get it. The President is clearly putting the pressure on the post menopausal yeast infected diaper wearing bitch. No deal made in just three short weeks it is ALL on her.

People are so harderend in their positions, the needle will barely move on blame.

Trump may have to play his last card - the Emergency. Which I think is Pelosis end game.

I love how yall somehow think "negotiating" means giving Trump what he wants. It a negotiation.... Both sides have to compromise. It's not the Dems job to bow to Trump

Nah, when you blink, you've weakened your position. Plus, she has the media on her side to negatively portray Trump if there is another shutdown.

He's backed off on 26 billion and now the shutdown over 5.7 billion. He'll be lucky to get 2.5 billion and it'll be worded as for security and not a barrier.

To show the Dems will not compromise. This way Trump looks rational and level-headed before making such a huge move like declaring an emergency.

Dude, to the masses of people who watch CNN/ABC/CBS etc, Trump will still be painted in a shitty light. So optics favor the Dems.

not everyone in our country is a PoliBoard stalwart like us who can religiously sift through the BS. They go by what is printed in the paper and what's on Anderson 360.

I'm comfortable in saying I think this is all spin from the GOPers on this board. Trying to eek out a W when no W is to be had. Downvote away I guess.

Reality is Trump has always known Pelosi won’t negotiate. This action accomplishes 4 things:
1 Lays the groundwork for a national emergency (notice how Trump is exhaustive in describing the threat the border in every speech he gives lately).
2 Puts the ball back in Pelosi’ s court, making more people on the fence realize how she never ever intended to negotiate.
3 Prevents the media from using the Super Bowl logistics to blame Trump
4 And nothing is preventing the SOTU now

This was always gonna end up being a “national emergency”.

Also, while working it’s way threw the courts, it keeps immigration front and center for 2020 (remember how Trump won in 2016?)

Wrong. He would be unlucky if he got 5.7 billion. Not all of that money is for the wall. He is going to get the wall. He isn't going to get it from Pelosi. He is going to show that he went over and above the call of duty to negotiate and give congress EVERY opportunity possible.

When they don't cave. He will declare a National Emergency. If he hadn't bent over backwards he would have to deal with the backlash from people for not exhausting all options first.

He's had 30 days to do just that so why extend it another 3 weeks if all he is going to do is call an emergency? Doesn't make sense.

Because he’s attempting to do it out in the open without resorting to declaring emergency

Don’t worry, we know the Dems won’t opperate like that the next time they have control

Here is what's going to happen.

Trump is going to reopen the government until Feb 15th so everyone can get their back pay. He will look like the most reasonable person in the room. Pelosi said that they would reopen negotiations once the government isn't shutdown.

Once again, he is going to look like the more reasonable person in the room after he does this. Once the government is open he is going to invite Pelosi and the dems over to the Whitehouse almost daily to discuss border security. Which they will refuse. He will tweet about it non-stop and bring it up in his SOTU address.

Then shutdown #2 the sequel happens on February 15th. This one will get dragged out until April/May. The dems will collapse this go around.

If they don't emergency declaration gets declared.

America gets the wall.

You got to look at this like chess. Sometimes you sacrifice a smaller piece to set up a trap to secure the win.

Meh, this is a classic example of losing the battle in order to win the war.

This means the Dums can't stonewall the wall forever.

The ball is now in the Dums court to propose a compromise some time in the next 3 weeks which includes a reasonable amount of money to fund the wall.

Pukey Pelosi will have to go along with it in spite of the fact that she said the wall is immoral.

If the Dums don't propose a reasonable compromise within the next 3 weeks then it will be the Dums' fault if President Trump shuts the government down again or declares a national emergency.

This also allows President Trump to give his SOTU address in a few days which will be glorious to watch.

I'm still on the train,
