Here’s the funny thing about where I’m positioned: I agree with the 20 but I don’t know if they’ve thought this out other than a willingness to burn shite down. This is what I’ve always been fearful of. What is the end game and what goals are you achieving in getting there (if you even can)? The dems will benefit from the infighting, guaranteed. That’s why they’re sitting things out and effectively watching from the sidelines. We’re killing each other right now when I don’t think we should be. No one really knows how McCarthy will be as speaker. He might be a Boehner or Ryan and our worst fears come true. He might not and he ends up MAGA and we’re shocked and happy. If there is ever an official split of the Republican Party we’ll never see power again at the national level and that means the states will fall given enough time.

Both sides of the republican party, to clarify.
Democrats aren't factored in this.

Right.
Who will both sides of the GOP accept?

This group is so, so reminiscent of the tea party.
Came in with guns blazing and some good ideas, but had no ability or desire to do what needed to be done to get anything accomolished. Fizzled out because they refused to work with anyone who didn't think exactly like they did.

Counting the 20 holdouts as one there are two party's. The GOPe are just democrats in disguise

If that's how you really feel... then how come Jefferies isn't now the speaker?

I agree with much of what you say but I doubt your doom and gloom forecast. The GOP has an extremist rump that will have to be managed and appeased more than if, say, the GOP had run better candidates and won a healthier majority. This will not always be such a bad thing because much legislation can garner at least some bipartisan support or be palatable to the GOP rump. Eventually this embarrassment will end and we can return to our normal level of dysfunction.

Hell, IDK but I trust what I've read that there are other candidates for SOTH that 218 republicans would vote for but McCarthy feels like he's earned this and put in his time so it should be him and right now 201 republicans are supporting him in that. But it doesn't mean they are supporting McCarthy or no one.

You're probably right, but what does that look like? The 20 have carried on to the degree that they've gotta save face somehow to let it end. Maybe if they agree to vote for him (maybe a few could vote "present") McCarthy could agree to do something humiliating, performatively cuck himself in some way to smooth things over?

Who both sides will accept is irrelevant. It's about who's acceptable to conservatives, and which GOP representatives actually represent their constituents.

None of this is true. Go get your estrogen levels checked, Histrionica.

We are still a two party country, not D and R, but us and them.
You appear to be in their party.

That's fine. The GOP doesn't represent a huge swath of their own base when they are in power. That's not gonna work. It's time for a harder right party.

This is the correct response. Sometime over the past couple generations, the GOPe became the moderate wing of the DNC.
One must only look at our national deficit combined with steadily increasing federal omnibus bills every year to verify this. Congress has stopped doing their primary job, which is to pass a budget.
Any faction that has enough power to actually be a thorn in the side of the Establishment Uniparty, is a very powerful faction no matter how much of a minority they may be.

Agreed. This is why I am not sure it ends with McCarthy as Speaker. However, I don't see the stunt accomplishing much more, and perhaps the R's get an arguably better Speaker. Eventually, though, you still have a R Speaker in a closely divided house.
