Get rid of something you don't want. As in 86 Comey.

You don't know what a woman is and think kids are sex objects. You should sit this out.

Coming from the party that claims when Trump gives a speech, every other word is a "code" or "dog whistle".

Again, sit this one out, groomer.

That's exactly what it means. It comes from Prohibition days when ordering a drink at a speakeasy, if the waiter said "86" it meant they were out of the good stuff, 100 proof, and only had 86 proof liquor left.

Greyhound had an ad campaign in the 70s or 80s that used the word in a jingle, something about 86ing other options besides Greyhound. I don't think they were advocating killing people who worked for Trailways.

I voted for Trump 3 times but think that Tulsi and Kash giving public statements on this is kind of embarrassing.

Murder is the worst possible interpretation of a term that can be used in different contexts. It could easily mean impeached or otherwise resisted.

Trump should just demean Comey in public as an irrelevant person whose opinion nobody values… and then maybe privately make a little trouble for him for what COULD be interpreted as a veiled threat.

Otherwise, conservatives are going to be made out to be hysterical boomers out of touch with slang.

It means to kill something. We used it when I worked in restaurants to communicate we were out of a product. A "dead" menu item that needs to be communicated.
This is an extremely narrow description of this in the restaurant industry.

When I worked in restaurants, it usually meant to keep that thing off the customer's order.

Like, if they wanted the hamburger with no ketchup, you wrote on the slip for the kitchen "burger, 86 ketchup".

For most people I’d take this approach but given its James Comey and he took the stance of being a miserable jerk and out of proportion interpretation to try to facilitate the removal of trump turnabout is fair play

The Rolling Stones and others have pieces out saying "the right" are losing their minds over the term 86.

The media is full court press protecting Comey, gaslighting saying that 86 is innocuous.

Comey now sells some $30 novels out on 20 May because the leftists are cheering him knowing damned well he called for the assassination of Trump. It is sick.

This is exactly the context I have always known 86.

It doesn't necessarily mean to kill. It is closer to impeach/remove than to kill, though I think the rhetoric is still very harmful and people like Comey should know better.

Coming from the party of "protest anything Trump does", then cry foul when you break the law and get arrested. Poor poor me.

I didn't work in a restaurant, nor did the majority of people in this country, and 86 directed at someone always meant kill.

So you're relying on your past mob experience to answer your own dumbass question? GTFO. Spare me the faux outrage. People on here post daily about how Democrats should be shot/executed.

The term 86 comes from the era of the 1920's some say it came out of the military.

Some say from the 1930's restaurant for throwing items away.

It came from the mob of the 1920's for 8 miles out, 6 fathoms down, or 8 miles out 6 feet down and that is from the 1920's also.

It's especially strange given that Trump's calling card is shitposting about people. People like that about him, the DGAF attitude, being willing to say what most politicians won't. Comey does the same thing and they're clutching their pearls?

Agreed. This feels like unseemly pearl-clutching by the die-hard MAGA crowd. Something the Dems would do: twisting a fairly innocuous word and then totally losing their sh!t for weeks.

We really need to rise above this sort of hysteria.

And Comey appreciates it. In fact, he, his publisher and agent were counting on it.

I have never seen 86 on a ticket, only "no'. Why the hell would you write "86" and not "no"? That makes no sense.

Only context I've heard it used is to kick someone out of a bar, eg. Security or bartender 86 a guy for being too drunk or rowdy

The context with Trump could've easily meant to impeach him again.
