It started in the 80s and has gotten worse because these kids have relied so much on calculators and computers. Their brains are virtually useless.

Teachers have been taught by our education colleges that drill and practice isn’t how learning best occurs. It’s obviously wrong.

I’d be willing to bet private school students would struggle to do the same thing without their phone calculator.

If I were you, thank God I'm not, I would never humiliate myself in such a way.
If your too stupid or shallow to discuss the point I've made, then just remain silent.
There's a Proverb that's says, " even a fool may appear wise if he keeps his mouth shut".

Perhaps you should've kept your mouth shut

While this might be true, my taxes don't fund those schools.

I don't care though. We all need to start saying something in these situations. We pay taxes for these results.

The biggest thing overlooked in all this is the fact with all these higher prices the govt is getting more taxes than ever.

Sure. It’s iin the second volume of Das Kapital that Marx says, “cashiers must be derived of math skills for the sake of the working class.” I remember covering that chapter in our post-graduate communism seminar.

I'll tell you, for a long time I wouldn't have said anything, but I'm getting fed up with watching the decline of the population.
If a person over the age of 12 can't do simple subtraction, we are failing as a society. If that's not bad enough, they couldn't even get it right with the help of a calculator.
As I said, I don't really care anymore if I piss people off. We all should be saying something.
If you think it's not a serious problem, then I'm embarrassed for you.

That doesn't disprove the point.

It proves it, actually.

You should read “Pedagogy of the Oppressed.” It’s the third most cited work in the social sciences. Guess what it teaches? That competency isn’t the goal of education. Revolution is.

It amazes me that anyone will still put their children in government schools.

We all know how they are.

When you posted the name earlier " Paolo Freire" I went ahead and looked him up and did a quick browse of his ideology and glanced through this " Pedagogy of the Opressed".
The parallels to where we are, are hard to ignore.
