After tonight scoreless draw, what happens now?

Explain it to me like I only watch soccer during World Cup years

For USA? Beat Panama Sunday and we’re basically in. It would take Costa Rica also winning Sunday and then beating us by 4 or more in the last game to keep us out.

I’m not sure about the scenarios if we tie or draw against Panama Sunday.

We clinch on Sunday if we beat Panama at home and Costa Rica loses/draws at El Salvador.

Chile, Peru, and Colombia will be fighting for a chance to play in the inter-confederation playoff.

A draw means worst case would be the 4th-place playoff (we would still be 4 points up on Panama) and we would only need a draw in Costa Rica to qualify directly. A draw Sunday coupled with a Costa Rica loss would clinch qualification (we would also be 4 points clear of them)

I’m gonna say it’ll be between Chile and Colombia then. Peru stinks.

Well, I know Colombia are worried that their former manager Peckerman will come back to bite them in Venezuela. Peru are at home against a Paraguay side out of it. I'd fancy Peru moving onto the intercontinental playoff.

Peru gets Paraguay at home and Colombia gets Venezuela away. I think I'd favor Peru as well.

FYI, the 4th-place CONCACAF team that ends up going to the playoff will play the winner of Oceania(New Zealand, Tahiti, Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea), and I'd assume that's likely going to be New Zealand.

Looking for a majority of the Maghreb to make the World Cup (actually, all of the current teams with a chance to qualify). Algeria and Tunisia are both up 1-0 at HT with away goals and Morocco tied the DR 1-1 and got an away goal. Fully expect Egypt to advance as well once these second legs are eventually done on March 29, but I also don't think Egypt is technically the Maghreb.

You all get my point.

I think we just see one Sub-Saharan team in either Ghana or Nigeria.

To further expand on that - Egypt and Senegal just played each other in the AFCON final last month. Now they’re playing each other and only one of them will go to the WC

They need to seed the teams to make it less arbitrary. Of all the qualifying regions, Africa is the only one that really doesn’t reward teams much for prior performance.
