Players on the U.S. women’s national soccer team are paid more than their counterparts on the men’s team. But Megan Rapinoe isn’t letting facts stand in the way of her P.R. campaign to pressure the United States Soccer Federation into increasing her salary.

quote:

It turns out, the Women’s National Team earned approximately $24 million overall; the Men’s National Team earned only $18 million. The average take per game was $220,747 for the women’s team, compared to $212,639 for the men’s team. And while the individual female plaintiffs made an average of $11,356 to $17,416 per game, the four highest-paid male players made an average of $10,360 to $13,964 per game.

Shocked this hadn't made it on here yet. Surprised to see someone in journalism actually stand up against the USWNT even though it's the same thing every sane person has been saying since the beginning. Not betting on yourself when you are heavy favorites is just dumb on their part.

Yep. Won't watch another second of their games with the current roster.

There have been several. Goff recently wrote a similar article.

Let’s not forget their included healthcare and their professional league that is completely subsidized by MLS and USSF, bc I doesn’t make anything close to a profit

MLS that all operates in the red could sure use that money instead of waisting it on the NWSL.

If she wants to get paid paid, got to Europe like your teammates have. In the English league that soon will be head and shoulders better the NWSL

I'm glad to see this make the press, but when the initial summary judgment was posted, this board did go into the logic of the USWNT's argument, which was nonsensical. LINK

I don't think any other federation in the world supports the women's game as much as the USSF. The USSF provides the salaries of the top 44 players, which is pretty unique as far as federations go.

The women want equality, but let's be real, men and women are playing different games. I currently play with some very good women, some of whom have been capped by various U23 and under teams from around the world, nearly all of whom have played college soccer, and while their technique is very good, they aren't any match for men's players, many of whom could not play in college. They can't even deal with slight contact, which makes for the annoying tendency for male players to leave them alone when on the ball, which accentuates some of their belief on being able to play with men.

What the women want is part of the men's prize purse, and that will break the federation if it happens. And then there likely won't be a purse to be had. The myopia of their argument is also hilarious, as if the USMNT refuses to share their purse, and decides to not play important WCQ qualifiers, and misses out on the prize money, then neither team will get it.

It would be far better for the women's game to build their own league through organic means, as the advantage that college soccer provided the US in the 90s and 00's is quickly eroding, with women's teams attached to PL teams progressing very quickly.

Although this is an exhibition, I thought this random video that showed up on my Youtube feed was interesting. LINK

They were always lying.

They just never got the bonuses the men got from the money for Making the Men's world cup.

Plus frick them, the men's team is what funded the women to begin with.

Yeah it was something towards another person that her eyes make her look Asian.

And why do we as men have to hold them up?

There are plenty of women in this world to make women's soccer leagues extremely lucrative. But they won't watch either.

They really have. I was one of those “I get annoyed by all of their woke agendas, but not enough to root against them” people last World Cup. That might be changing during the olympics.

The financial equality bs is so blatantly retarded that I get too worked up just thinking about it.

Yeah the argument was such BS and truly only worked at the very tippy top of the surface. Any even light scrutiny tore their argument up.

But, it got them more publicity than actually winning soccer games (this generation, at least) so that's their created identity.

This should be a warning for leagues in the future NOT to do combined deals like US Soccer did for the men and women. It allows the non-earners to pretend they contributed just as much to the deal as the earning group, which opens the door to these logic-less "arguments".

I feel the same way. If the lawsuit came and went, then I probably would've forgotten about it. I probably still would be sick of Rapinoe, but been fine with the rest. The fact that this is still a thing has really not only made me indifferent to their success but actually hoping they play poorly. That new documentary that they keep advertising during the Euros is just the cherry on the Sundae.

They had a decent case at the start. USSF almost immediately ceded certain things like travel, medical treatment, etc. Then when USSF said that they previously offer almost the exact same contract as the men during the last CBA discussions, the rest of the women's case fell apart. Since that point, the judges have ruled in favor of USSF at pretty much every point.

Rapinoe is a bad human being. She lies, she's ungrateful, etc. Our sports media is terrible about putting people like that on a pedestal, even without getting into her shitty political opinions.

Hasn't this been the difference that causes the men to earn more, at least as of late? I think it's been known for a while that the USSF pays the women more, but the men still earn more because of WC payout, which USSF does not control.

I think the women only earned more because the men simply didn't win enough. The men could earn more even if you remove the bonus for winning the World Cup.

She's the living embodiment that underscores the ridiculousness of this entire month. We have to rainbow up everything to pretend gays are so persecuted when all of her fame and adoration she receives in the media is because she is a purple haired lesbian.
